"I've eaten insects on a few worlds. Where they're normal foodstuffs. There's one planet where they oil and toast bugs, eat them out of bags at parades and outdoor festivals and that kind of thing. That's where I tried my first one."
"And?"
"And honestly, they're not too bad. More crunch than flavor, you know?"
―Reath Silas and Avon Starros[1]

During the High Republic Era, the human Jedi Reath Silas visited a planet where insects was considered typical foodstuff and were toasted and oiled before being eaten out of bags. During his time on the planet, Silas ate a bug for the first time. In 228 BBY, the Jedi recalled his visit to the planet when he and the scientist Avon Starros were served grub gruel for dinner on the Mid Rim planet Kashyyyk.

Description

The planet was terrestrial and home to insects.[1]

Reath Silas (pictured) ate an insect for the first time while on the planet

By 228 BBY,[2] during the High Republic Era, the human Jedi Reath Silas visited the planet. During his time on the planet, Silas ate an insect for the first time, which he considered to be "not too bad" and noted that its crunchiness was more prominent than its taste.[1]

That year,[2] while Silas—by then a Jedi Knight—and the human scientist Avon Starros were on[1] the Mid Rim[3] planet Kashyyyk for a mission, they were served grub gruel for an evening's dinner, although Starros was reluctant to eat it. After Silas saw the scientist's plate with the gruel, he asked her about it, with Starros stating she had only taken the food to be polite and while she was hungry, she was not hungry enough to eat it. The Jedi Knight then told her about the time he had visited the planet where the bugs had been toasted and oiled, before noting the grub gruel was where he drew the line when it came to eating insects.[1]

Inhabitants

Insects were considered normal foodstuff on the planet. The planet's inhabitants toasted and oiled the creatures before eating them out of bags at parades and other outdoor festivals.[1]

Behind the scenes

The planet was mentioned in the 2025 young-adult novel The High Republic: Into the Light, written by Claudia Gray as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[4]

  2. 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 16, which features the Stormwall going down, takes place one year and a few months after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. The events of The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless also take place in 228 BBY per the reasoning here. As The High Republic: Into the Light states its events occur after the events of Tears of the Nameless and before the Stormwall goes down, they must also take place in that year.
