- "Talking about one's feelings helps normalize and synthesize those emotions. You should consider talking about what happened to you more often."
- ―The emotional-support droid, to Avon Starros
An emotional-support droid existed during the High Republic Era. After being kidnapped[1] by 235 BBY,[2] the human female Avon Starros spent time visiting the emotional-support droid. The droid told Avon that talking about her feelings would help normalize and synthesize the emotions she felt, and that she should consider talking more often about what had happened to her. Avon, however, found it hard to talk about her emotions as it was not the way her family lived their lives. Eventually, Avon stopped seeing the emotional-support droid as her mother—Galactic Republic Senator Ghirra Starros—decided that she needed something more sophisticated and got her the protocol droid J-6.[1]
That year,[2] while Avon was stranded on the Outer Rim moon Wevo, she mentally recalled the time she had spent with the emotional-support droid and what it had told her. She considered it the first companion she had before J-6.[1]
Behind the scenes
The emotional-support droid was mentioned in the 2021 junior novel The High Republic: A Test of Courage, written by Justina Ireland and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I.[3]

A Test of Courage establishes that J-6 was given to Avon Starros three years before its events, and that Starros was given J-6 after the kidnapping. Therefore, the kidnapping must have taken place by 235 BBY.
