"Surrender and we just might spare your life!"
―The Trandoshan, to Kouru[4]

A Trandoshan male bounty hunter served as a hired guard commander for a village on the Outer Rim planet Genbara two decades after the failed Sith rebellion. Armed with a sword and a naginata, he fought alongside several other mercenaries when the village was attacked by Bandit Troopers under the command of the Sith Kouru. The Trandoshan was killed during the battle when Kouru impaled him with her lightsaber parasol.

Biography

"You're confused."
"What?"
"You'll surrender. Although, I won't be sparing your lives."
―Kouru and the Trandoshan[4]

Twenty years after the unsuccessful Sith rebellion, the Trandoshan bounty hunter worked as a hired bodyguard[1] commander[4] to protect a village on the Outer Rim planet Genbara. He was part of a group of several other guards, including a Gran bodyguard, a Tusken sniper, a Dug bounty hunter piloting a bladed probot, and a heavily armed protocol droid. They were hired within the context of three other nearby villages in those mountains being destroyed by what a local woodcutter described as spirits who did not accept settlers in the region. When the village was attacked by Bandit Troopers aligned with the Sith Kouru, the guards intervened to defend the villagers after the acting village chief gave the signal.[1]

The Trandoshan entered the fray, jumping out of a house with[4] a sword[5] and a naginata, cutting through multiple bandits. During the skirmish, Kouru emerged from the bandits' troop transport. Standing in the village square, the Trandoshan called for her to surrender, declaring that she would be spared if she complied. Kouru rejected the demand and responded with her own order for the bounty hunters to surrender. She then activated her weapon, a lightsaber parasol, and deflected a barrage of blasterfire from the guards.[1]

The commander[4] urged the other bounty hunters not to allow her to draw near. However, Kouru leapt into the square and pulled him toward her with the Force, lifting him by the throat. Struggling against her hold, the Trandoshan once again ordered the others to flee, warning that they could not hope to overcome her. Under chokehold, he gargled and kicked his feet in the air. He looked around and gasped at what Kouru deemed to have been the Trandoshan witnessing someone die. Kouru then impaled him with her lightsaber parasol, unfurling its six red blades on the opposite side of his dead corpse.[1]

Personality and traits

"R-run! We can't hope to—"
―The Trandoshan, shortly before perishing[1]

The guard was a lean Trandoshan[1] male[2] who stood at over 2.10 meters tall.[3] He possessed scaled skin, a ridged snout, and sharp teeth[4] typical of his species.[6] His build was large and muscular.[3]

Skills and abilities

"No good! Fall back! Don't let her engage in close combat!"
―The Trandoshan, instructing his fellow guards[1]

The Trandoshan holding his naginata

The Trandoshan bounty hunter was skilled in melee combat, proficiently wielding both a naginata and a sword at once. His fighting style allowed him to cut down several armed opponents in rapid succession. In battle, he charged into combat against multiple opponents.[1] As a commander,[4] he also demonstrated a measure of leadership during the skirmish on Genbara, calling on his fellow guards to avoid close combat with the Sith Kouru and ordering them to retreat when it became clear she could not be defeated.[1]

Equipment

"Keep firing! Don't give her a chance to strike!"
―The Trandoshan, to his comrades[1]

At the skirmish on Genbara, the Trandoshan fought with a naginata and a curved sword, which he wielded simultaneously, using long weapons to take advantage of his long arms.[1] His attire consisted of lamellar armor across his neck, torso and waist, secured with rope ties, as well as baggy trousers and protective wrappings around his lower legs and feet. A rope harness across his back allowed him to carry his naginata.[3]

The Trandoshan first appeared in "The Duel," a non-canon short film released as part of the first volume of the Star Wars: Visions series, produced by Kamikaze Douga and released on Disney+[4] on September 22, 2021.[7] Before the short's release, he was first pictured in a video uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel on July 3, 2021.[8] He was voiced by Chado Horii in the original Japanese and by JP Karliak in the English dub.[4]

Originally designed by Takashi Okazaki,[9] the character also appeared in the non-canon novel Ronin: A Visions Novel, written by Emma Mieko Candon[1] and published on October 12, 2021.[10] According to Candon, all of the bounty hunters were deliberately gendered as male.[2] The Trandoshan's wraparound belt was reused for the Wookiee Fzbol, who appeared in "The Duel: Payback," a sequel to "The Duel," released as part of the third volume of Star Wars: Visions on October 29, 2025.[11]

Concept art for the Trandoshan, including frontal and rear views and a size comparison chart, was included in Zack Davisson's reference book The Art of Star Wars: Visions, published in 2022.[3] Although the Gran guard was labeled as the guard leader in the concept art,[3] it is the Trandoshan who was referred to as the commander in the short film.[4] A Kamikaze Douga production whiteboard illustration of the geography and plot points of the short film depicted the manner in which the Trandoshan was to be impaled by the Bandit Leader.[12]
