Tunda Ress was a humanoid species individual who was present in Jedha City on the[1] Mid Rim Territories[2] moon Jedha shortly before the Galactic Empire destroyed the city in order to test the capabilities of their Death Star superweapon[1] in 1 BBY.[3] Ress and an individual in similar attire passed by the Rebel Alliance intelligence officer Cassian Andor and his companion Jyn Erso in the city, narrowly avoiding bumping into them.[1] They wore a mask made out of chrome, brown-and-grey robes, and carried a DH-17 blaster pistol.[4]

Behind the scenes

Tunda Ress first appeared in the 2016 Anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.[1] Scenes including Ress were filmed in Jordan between July 2324, 2015.[5] The accompanying book The Art of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story[6] features a character concept labeled "Jedha Alien G0021," drawn by Adam Brockbank, although it is unclear whether it depicts Ress or their identical companion. In the concept, Ress' face was drawn in an organic manner[6] instead of the metallic face mask featured in the film.[1]

In a 2018 card for Topps' Star Wars: Card Trader mobile application, titled "Chrome Faces – Rogue One – Shadow Portraits," Ress is referred to as a "Chrome Face."[4] The character received a name in 2019 with the release of the card "Marathon 2019 – Topps Choice – Tunda Ress."[7] A character wearing Tunda Ress' outfit appears in "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian," the first episode of the Disney+ series Star Wars: The Mandalorian,[8] which released on November 12, 2019.[9] In downloadable content for video game Star Wars Outlaws's Wild Card expansion,[10] released on November 21, 2024,[11] the gambler Rauvin Vashiri wears the same type of mask as Ress. Though she is established to be a human, her mask is identified as a Mazanti face covering.[10]
