The Torment was an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer in the naval forces of the Galactic Empire that participated in the Battle of Theed during Operation: Cinder and was helmed by Captain Lerr Duvat.
History
The Torment was under the command of Captain Lerr Duvat when Duvat received a droid messenger containing the posthumous orders of Emperor Palpatine after the Battle of Endor. The messenger relayed orders to Duvat for Operation: Cinder, with his target being the Emperor's homeworld of Naboo. Convinced that the Emperor was not in fact dead, Duvat followed his orders without question.[8]
The Torment took part in Operation: Cinder above Naboo
After arriving above Naboo, the Torment deployed climate disruption array satellites[8] that proceeded to destroy the planet and its confused populace.[1]
After Queen Sosha Soruna of Naboo, Captain Korro of the Royal Naboo Security Forces, Princess Leia Organa, and Shara Bey, realized that an Imperial force was attacking them with satellites, Soruna, Organa, and Bey located N-1 starfighters and used them to go into orbit and repel the Imperial attack.[1]
Having remained in orbit of the world, the Torment was caught in the counterattack, losing multiple TIE fighters and several satellites. Shortly after, a Rebel task force led by General Lando Calrissian arrived to resist Imperial forces. It included the MC80 Star Cruiser, Restoration,[1] Danger Squadron,[6] and the Mellcrawler II.[1]
Torment comes under heavy fire from the Restoration.
After the Rebel starfighter reinforcements destroyed most of the satellites, Y-wing bombers attacked the Torment's deflector shield generators, leaving it open to a broadside from the Restoration, which led to the destruction of the ship.[6]
As the Torment was being destroyed, Imperial forces, consisting of at least two Gozanti-class cruisers, shuttles, landing craft, and TIE fighters, made towards the capital city of Theed, in an effort to take over the Theed Royal Palace. In the end, an ion pulse was detonated that immobilized Imperial forces and resulted in the surrender of remaining Imperial forces.[6]

The Torment first appeared in the comic book Shattered Empire 2.[8] In 2017, the Torment appeared in the video game Star Wars Battlefront II in the mission "Outcasts".[6]
