- "Sila, I…I was wrong. And you were right. And right now I would give anything to hear you say I told you so, but I'm still here on Toprawa, still at the facility, and you are…who knows where you are?"
- ―Lante, in a holomessage for Sila Kott
Toprawa was a remote planet located in the Outer Rim Territories' Kalamith sector along the Hydian Way. It avoided much attention from the Galactic Republic and its successor, the Galactic Empire, who kept a research station. Toprawa was also the home to the human Sila Kott and her family, who ran a transport business.
Lante, a resident on Kott's street, was recruited into the research station a recruited Kott and her brother Set to test pilot for her. Kott and Lante later visited the Ansharii Caverns together. In the meantime, however, a laser test at the research station malfunctioned and killed Kott's father and brothers. After returning to the news of her family's deaths Kott chose to leave Toprawa and join the Rebel Alliance, much to Lante's disagreement. After Kott's death at the Battle of Endor, a flight school in her name was established at Toprawa.
Description
Toprawa lay along the Hydian Way.
Toprawa was a remote terrestrial planet[1] part of the Toprawa system of the Kalamith sector.[3] It was located in a sparsely populated portion of the Outer Rim Territories that was not rich in resources,[1] as well as within the New Territories region.[2] The world was situated in grid square P-5 of the Standard Galactic Grid,[4] close to the planet Serenno,[6] and was connected to the celestial bodies known as Junction and Pho Ph'eah systems by the Hydian Way hyperspace route.[4]
A lush forest world,[1] Toprawa appeared light and dark green in color from space.[7] The planet orbited a sun and had multiple moons.[1]
History
A quiet place
- "Heard Lante sing with the band at the tavern last night. Just leapt on the stage, grabbed the mic, and improvised five minutes' worth of gliz. Not half bad, unlike someone else under the sonics."
- ―Sila Kott's father, to his daughter
While Toprawa was affected by criminal syndicates and cartels, the planet avoided significant attention from the Galactic Republic and later the forces of its successor, the Galactic Empire, due to the world's remoteness and lack of resource significance. Regardless, a research station was present within reach of Toprawa City for much of the Empire's reign. The facility was concerned with the development of Imperial technology, including upgrading the performance of fighters.[1]
Lante's aunt moved from Toprawa to Otor's Hub (pictured on a map).
Meanwhile, the human[8] female[9] Sila Kott grew up in a corner of Toprawa City in a family of cargo pilots who ran a transport business. Kott's father, while Kott herself piloted the family's cargo freighter. Down the road to Kott lived Lante, who grew up with only her aunt before the latter moved to the[1] space station Otor's Hub, further along the Hydian Way.[10] A gifted engineer, Lante became popular with Kott's family, although despised by Kott herself.[1]
While the Empire entered a Galactic Civil War with the Rebel Alliance, Toprawa continued to be in peace because of its remoteness.[1] By the time of the war, diehard survival enthusiasts from Toprawa designed the weapon known as the 'aKraB clip-point vibrodagger, whose function was to allow an individual to make close-quarters precision kills on large animals by slipping in between their armor plates.[11]
Weapons testing
- "At the facility, they've been working on building some kind of laser to help with mining. There was something wrong with the gas, and the laser malfunctioned during testing. And your family's freighter was…I wish it hadn't been where it was."
- ―Stefan, to Sila Kott
Toprawa on the Hydian Way
After impressing the right Imperial scientist, Lante was recruited into the research facility. While Kott continued to focus on piloting for her family business, increased smuggling along the Hydian Way meant that the business's finances began to struggle. When Lante offered Kott a job test piloting a fighter that she was developing, the latter turned it down out of her dislike for the Empire, while one of her three brothers, Set, took it up to support the family business.[1]
Kott decided to take up another of Lante's test-pilot gigs two months later, flying an Imperial fighter that Lante had modified from a spaceport. Kott enjoyed the flying, and Lante collected the flight data and commended her test-pilot's skills. Later on, Kott and Lante went to the Ansharii Caverns of Toprawa, where Kott's brothers had been three times without her. However, while the two enjoyed their trip, the Imperial research station was testing a type of laser that they were developing allegedly for mining operations. The laser reportedly malfunctioned during the test and hit Kott's family freighter, killing her father and three brothers in the process.[1]
Revenge
- "From Toprawa"
"Oh. Who is it from?"
"One of our informants. I met with her while I was gathering intel on the Imperial facility, just a few days ago. She asked me to give this to you." - ―A rebel agent and Sila Kott
Sila Kott (pictured) left Toprawa to become a rebel pilot.
Kott received the news of the accident when she returned from the Ansharii Caverns. Lante stayed at her side during the news as well as the following funerals. When the two had a moment together in Kott's bed, Kott questioned why Lante was going back to work at the Imperial facility, condemning the Empire's tyranny and expansion. While Lante believed that the war was too big for them to be involved in, Kott refused to side with her and left Toprawa the next day, going on to join the Alliance as a pilot.[1]
Within around two years, Lante found herself disillusioned with the Empire and became an informant to the Alliance Intelligence. Planning to take down the Toprawa research station, she sent a holographic message for Kott with a rebel agent that was gathering intelligence on the facility. The agent delivered the message to Kott a few days later, and two days after that the research station became non-functional, with Lante listed among the casualties of the incident.[1]
Kott later perished during the Battle of Endor[1] in 4 ABY. The battle was a decisive victory for the Alliance, and the Empire lost the war the next year.[12] To honor Sila Kott's contribution to liberating the galaxy, a flight school in her name was built at Toprawa.[5]
Inhabitants
- "My point is, Sila. They're nice, but they're not the only people on the planet."
- ―Lante, to Sila Kott, on the latter's brothers
Toprawa was the homeworld[5] of the human[8] Sila Kott and her family, and had many other residents in Toprawa City like Lante. The local Imperial Research Station there employed members of Kott and Lante's community, and Stefan, a friend of Kott's father.[1]
Locations
- "They know I've been wanting to go to the Ansharii Caverns since I was a child, they know, but they always make the trip when I can't go along."
- ―Sila Kott, to Lante
Toprawa was home to an eponymous city with many residences like Sila Kott's house and at least one tavern. An Imperial Research Station was also based on the world and other locations included a spaceport, the Ansharii Caverns, and Big Woolly, home to tall conifers.[1] The Sila Kott flight school was built at Toprawa after Kott's death.[5]

Toprawa was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the twenty-third issue of the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine, published by De Agostini[7] around June 10, 2015.[13] The depiction of Toprawa in Build the Millennium Falcon 23 reuses artwork[7] for the planet Rodia[14] from "Bombad Jedi,"[15] the eighth episode in the first season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series that first aired on November 21, 2008.[16] Toprawa later made its first appearance in "The Last Flight," a short story written by Ali Hazelwood and published in the 2023 anthology book From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi.[1]
Toprawa was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared in the 1981 Star Wars radio dramatization, adapted by Brian Daley and produced by National Public Radio,[17] before receiving a visual depiction in Jedi Dawn, a 1993 roleplaying book written by Paul Cockburn and published by Boxtree.[18]
