"If you leave... If you leave me... You and I..."
―Lante asks Sila Kott not to leave Toprawa[1]

Lante was a female who fell in love with Sila Kott. She perished in an accident on the planet Toprawa.[1]

Biography

Early life

"And now that her aunt has moved to Otor's Hub, Lante's alone in the world. It's not like she has someone providing for her."
Corl, to Sila Kott[1]

Lante was a female individual who grew up on the planet Toprawa. As far as her peers knew, Lante's parents were never in the picture. Lante's aunt took care of her until her teenage years, when her elderly guardian moved to Otor's Hub. After that, Lante looked out for herself. Although she was not necessarily privy to all of it, another girl her age, Sila Kott, was constantly compared to Lante by her family, which caused Kott to have negative feelings towards Lante. Lante was always friendly to Kott and frequently hung around with her, eventually developing feelings for Kott.[1]

Imperial career

Lante was a skilled mechanic and, when she was seventeen, was recruited by an Imperial scientist to work as a tech at the Imperial research station on Toprawa. From then on, she lived in an apartment at the facility.[1]

Eventually, Lante's job called for test pilots, and she traveled back into town to seek out Kott, whom she knew was a great pilot. She offered Kott the chance to help her and be financially compensated for her services, although Kott brushed her away and said that she did not want to work for the Empire. Lante eventually hired Kott's brother Set to help her. Two months later, she returned to the Kotts to ask for Set, but due to the fact that he was out on a job, Kott timidly accepted to fill in for him.[1]

Lante had Kott fly Imperial starfighters, hoping to gather performance data that would help her upgrade speed, maneuverability, and visibility. Although Kott was normally cold and guarded around Lante, after the test flight, she was happy and honest with Lante after the flight, saying that it had been the best ship she had ever flown. Lante was appreciative of the help.[1]

Later, Kott, who had began warming up to Lante, mentioned that her brothers always went to the Ansharii Caverns without her. Lante offered to go with her to the caverns, and soon after, the two made the journey together. They took speeders out of town before hiking, snacking on starfruit, and watching the sunset. Kott began to reciprocate Lante's feelings. However, their newfound relationship was interrupted when they returned home and Kott was told that there had been an accident that had resulted in the death of her father and all of her brothers. They had all been onboard a ship that was accidentally destroyed during an Imperial testing of lasers that were being developed as mining equipment.[1]

Lante stayed at Kott's side after that, keeping her company in her now empty home and holding her hand at the funerals. One day, Lante told Kott that she was going to make sure that the research station never had another accident. Kott was surprised by this, asking Lante if she was really going back to work for them. Kott continued by saying that the Empire had not even acknowledged the deaths and that they were building weapons that would eventually kill even more people as they took over the galaxy. Lante countered that the war was bigger than both of them and that they could not escape the system unless Kott were to join the Rebellion. When Kott did not reply, Lante pleaded with her not to leave. Although Kott had not previously considered it, she left Toprawa the next day.[1]

An apology

"I was so wrong. And I did... something. A thing that will count as an apology, I hope. Sila, I have to go. And this is goodbye, but... I'll see you again, I know I will. I don't know when, but... why don't you surprise me?"
―Lante, to Sila Kott[1]

Lante continued working for the Empire, but eventually became a rebel informant. Two years after Kott had left Toprawa, Lante included a message to her when she sent the Rebellion intel from her facility. She told Kott that she realized that she had chosen the wrong side and said that she had tried to make up for it. Saying that she did not know when they would see each other again, she asked Kott to surprise her as tears filled her eyes. Soon after, Lante was killed when sabotaging the research facility.[1]

Legacy

When Kott flew for the Rebellion at the Battle of Endor, she was shot down and killed by Imperial fighters. Her last thoughts were of Lante's message to her.[1]

Personality and traits

"Heard Lante sing with the band at the tavern last night. Just leapt on the stage, grabbed the mic, and improvised five minutes' worth of gliz."
Sila Kott's father[1]

Lante was a female individual with long shiny brown hair and green eyes. She was charming, good at conversation, and had a winning smile. She was a skilled mechanic, always able to fix things, a talent that ended with her being recruited by the Empire to work at a research station on Toprawa when she was seventeen years old.[1]

She was a good singer, and sometimes sung at a tavern in Toprawa City. She was also a capable sabacc player.[1]

Sila Kott harbored a grudge against Lante due to the fact that she was constantly compared to her, although Lante did not engage in any of the conversations and remained friendly with Kott before the two eventually realized their feelings for each other. However, their relationship did not last, as Kott left Toprawa to join the Rebellion.[1]
