"You mean this whole place might have a self-destruct?"
"It's possible. If so, the control will be up in the throne room. I could go and take a look."
―Han Solo and Mara Jade[2]

The Throne Room Complex in Mount Tantiss served as the seat of Emperor Palpatine while he would visit his storehouse on Wayland.

At some point, Emperor's Hand Mara Jade met with Palpatine inside it.[2] In 3 ABY, the Emperor's apprentice, Darth Vader brought him a box containing the severed hand of his son, Luke Skywalker, and his lightsaber. They met in the throne room, where Vader explained to the Emperor about the battle in which he was able to acquire the items.[3]

Eventually, by 4 ABY, Palpatine put Mount Tantiss, including the throne room, under the protection of a Dark Jedi Guardian.[4]

Occupied by Joruus C'Baoth

"Is the hologram pad in the Emperor's old throne room operational, Colonel?"
"Yes, sir. Though C'baoth may not be in the throne room itself."
―Grand Admiral Thrawn and Colonel Kleyn Selid[2]

Eventually, Joruus C'baoth, the insane clone of Jedi Master Jorus C'baoth, arrived at Mount Tantiss, killed the guardian, and took up residence in it. In 9 ABY, he allied himself with Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn, but broke it off later on. In response, Thrawn ordered that he be imprisoned inside the mountain. As he was being transported, however, C'Baoth was able to take control of the minds of the Imperials guarding him, ordering them to put explosives around the Force suppressing Ysalamir that had been placed around the mountain by Thrawn, and open up the Royal Chambers beneath the throne room for him. When Thrawn learned of what occurred, he contacted the throne room's secure holochambers to speak with the insane clone, who answered using the Emperor's private setting that caused the face of the user to appear extremely huge. The Grand Admiral allowed C'Baoth to roam freely around the Royal Chambers and throne room but ordered he not be allowed to leave and that all control circuits on those floors were to be disabled.[2]

C'Baoth predicted that Skywalker, now a Jedi, and Jade, now working against the Empire, would come to him, believing they would join him as apprentices. As such, during an attack on Mount Tantiss by the New Republic and Smugglers' Alliance in which the two were present, he entered the throne room, sat on the throne once belonging to the Emperor, and waited. When Skywalker and Jade entered the throne room to find a self destruct button, thinking it to be on the throne itself, C'Baoth turned the chair towards them, revealing himself. The trio exchanged words and Jade drew her blaster, but he flipped a switch on a remote, causing the explosives to detonate and kill the Ysalamir, restoring his ability to use the Force.[2]

C'Baoth quickly shot Force lightning at Jade, incapacitating her. As Skywalker tended to her, another person entered the room, wielding his old lightsaber: Luuke Skywalker, a clone made using the DNA from his severed hand. Luuke attacked, and the two began dueling. As they fought, the clone threw his lightsaber at Skywalker, causing him to fall off of a catwalk he was standing on. He then pulled the weapon towards him with the Force but C'Baoth grabbed it as well. With the saber hanging in midair, Skywalker attempted to destroy it by throwing his own blade at it, but the insane Jedi launched Mara's blaster at him, knocking it into his arm and changing the trajectory of the throw, causing the lightsaber to miss.[2]

Both Skywalker and his clone retrieved their respective lightsabers and began preparing to duel again, but they were interrupted when New Republic Minister of State Leia Organa Solo and her husband Han Solo, along with the leader of the Smugglers' Alliance Talon Karrde stepped out of the turbolift. Solo shot his blaster at C'Baoth, but he blocked the bolts by bringing Jade's blaster into their path, destroying it. C'Baoth retaliated with a Force scream and shooting lightning at Han, sending him flying backwards. He then shot lightning at the support beams to the overhead catwalk, attempting to cause it to fall on Organa Solo, but she was able to cut it in half with her lightsaber when it fell on top of her. Skywalker and the clone began dueling again, with the Jedi slowly backing towards a wall with a viewscreen on it. As they fought, C'Baoth pulled Organa Solo's lightsaber towards him, but Jade caught it.[2]

As Skywalker reached the wall, the clone swung his lightsaber at him, but he ducked and the blade sliced into the screen, shooting out sparks into the clone's face. Jade, taking the opportunity, ran towards the clone as he was distracted and cut him down. Enraged, C'Baoth began collapsing the ceiling using the Force, but Jade charged towards him and thrust Organa Solo's lightsaber into the insane Jedi, killing him and causing the dark side energy in him to explode out. The explosion destroyed the throne and caused a wall in the rear end of the room to break open.[2]

The Throne Room Complex was at the very top of the Emperor's storehouse in Mount Tantiss on Wayland. The room was a large cavern, with its walls the polished rocks of the mountain itself.[5] On one end of the room was a raised platform where the Emperor's throne and two duty posts sat[6] in front of the far wall, which itself contained a shielded transparisteel viewport that was retractable and camouflaged on the outside.[5] On the walls next to the throne and on the ceiling above it were viewscreens that allowed the Emperor to keep track of the galaxy. Beneath the raised platform were command consoles. In front of the raised platform were two guard posts for the Emperor's Royal Guards to stand.[2] Next to the throne was a small hallway leading to stairs and a private turbolift to an emergency shuttle hangar below. Adjacent to the turbolift was a room containing a secure holobooth with the ability to make the person using the chamber have their face appear large to the receiver.[5]

On the other side of the throne room was a large hologram of the galaxy. The display was twenty meters long and highly detailed, with little points of light for each star and slight circles of color for the different political regions.[2] The hologram could be controlled from the control consoles beneath the throne's raised platform and the throne itself.[1] Next to the giant hologram, staggered to the throne, was a ten meter long walkway that led to the room's main turbolift and stairwell. Above the stairs to the platform, an overhead catwalk ran.[2]
