Force suppression[1][2][3] also known as Dampen Force,[4] was a mind-affecting Force power that was employed by crafty Force-sensitives. It allowed a Force-sensitive to harness the Force to shatter the Force powers another used[1] or in order to convince others that they had been cut off from the Force itself.[5] As such, it served to diminish an enemy's Force resistance[6] and to negate a vast range of other Force abilities, including but not limited to Force speed, Force valor, Force barrier, Force fury, Inspire, Energy resistance, and even Battle meditation.[1][2] When subjected to certain uses the victim might be unable to focus enough to touch the Force,[7] or could not control objects bigger than molecules when affected by Dampen Force. However, it did not block use of the Force entirely and only had temporary effects, though sometimes lasting for some days.[4]
Advanced mastery of this technique was referred to as Force breach during the Old Sith Wars.[1][2] During the Cold War, that name was instead applied to the ability to deal catastrophic damage against targets by rupturing their shatterpoints.[6] Hethrir was a known user of this technique, using it to control the children he kidnapped for his Empire Reborn movement. He would often dampen the abilities of non-human "students" at critical moments to perpetuate the movement's humanocentric agenda. These unfortunates would be removed as "failures" and sold into slavery as a source of income.[4]
