"The Emperor's Trophy" was a short story and role-playing game written by Peter Schweighofer, originally published in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 11 and later reprinted on Hyperspace.
Plot summary
After the duel on Cloud City, Lord Vader arrives at the Mount Tantiss storehouse. The Sith meets with his master the Emperor.
He brings a trophy: his lightsaber — and the remains of Luke Skywalker's severed hand. Palpatine reveals that he has foreseen Skywalker's fate, and returns to Coruscant.
Continuity
Just what the Emperor planned to do with this trophy would not be revealed until the events of The Last Command (1993), the third book of the Thrawn Trilogy, which was published before this short story.[1]
