Two shoto lightsabers were used by the Tenth Brother, an Inquisitor in the Galactic Empire's Jedi-hunting organization, the Inquisitorius. Previously using a green-bladed lightsaber during his time as a Jedi in 22 BBY, he wielded the shoto lightsabers as an Inquisitor in 18 BBY during a mission to the planet Mon Cala, where he met his end. The lightsabers featured a handguard and produced red-colored blades from their kyber crystals.

Description

Two shoto lightsabers were owned by the Tenth Brother, a member of the Galactic Empire's Inquisitorius—an organization responsible for hunting Jedi.[1] Both hilts contained a kyber crystal,[3] which produced short, red-colored blades. The black cylindrical hilts featured a gray handguard that ran from the top to the pommel. When not being used, the Tenth Brother carried the lightsabers on either hip.[2] In combat, he wielded the sabers in a reverse grip.[1]

Previously using a green-bladed lightsaber when he was a Jedi[4] in 22 BBY,[6] the Tenth Brother utilized two shoto lightsabers in[2] 18 BBY.[7] The Inquisitor brought the lightsabers with him when he joined fellow Inquisitors Sixth Brother and Ninth Sister,[2] the Inquisitorius' Master,[8] Darth Vader, and a group of Purge Troopers on the planet Mon Cala to investigate the presence of a Jedi. Shortly after they arrived in Dac City on Mon Cala, a shuttle carrying the Imperial diplomat Telvar exploded,[2] resulting in the Battle of Dac City. During the battle, the Tenth Brother used his shoto lightsabers to secure the landing platform on which their transport resided.[9]

The Inquisitor returned the lightsabers to his hips as he followed Vader towards a nearby palace to interrogate the King of Mon Cala, Lee-Char, on the location of the Jedi. The Tenth Brother cut down Mon Cala's military personnel as the group advanced into the palace, while Ferren Barr, the Jedi in question, reviewed their progress on a datapad. After confronting the King, the Ninth Sister attempted to extract the location of Barr from Lee-Char.[9] The Ninth Sister was successful,[10] but before[9] she[1] could share the information, giant waves crashed across Mon Cala's surface, an attempt by the king to repel the Imperial invaders. With his lightsabers holstered, the Tenth Brother attempted to hold back the water with help from the other Inquisitors and Vader by creating a Force barrier, though they ultimately failed.[9] The Tenth Brother kept his lightsabers on his person while the Inquisitors acquired an Imperial submarine and rescued Vader from the Great Ungeness Trench.[10]

The Inquisitors and Vader encountered Barr fleeing to Bel City and gave chase. While Barr initially eluded them, he and his remaining disciples reached a dead end, as the Tenth Brother and the other Inquisitors marched through the city with their lightsabers ignited, followed by Purge Troopers. After cornering Barr and his disciple Verla, the Jedi revealed the past names of the present Inquisitors—Bil Valen the Sixth Brother, Masana Tide the Ninth Sister, and Prosset Dibs the Tenth Brother—and their past as Jedi. He then revealed the Purge Troopers as clones activated after the execution of Order 66,[11] an order for clone troopers to execute all Jedi.[1] Barr then mind tricked the Purge Troopers into executing Order 66.[11] Ignoring the Tenth Brother's protest, the clones opened fire on the three Inquisitors, who deflected the bolts with their lightsabers. The Tenth Brother fell to the barrage, dropping his lightsabers, while Sixth Brother, Ferren Barr, Verla,[5] and the Ninth Sister escaped alive.[12] In 34 ABY,[13] Jedi Master Luke Skywalker included a depiction of the Tenth Brother and his shoto lightsabers in The Secrets of the Jedi, a book chronicling the history of the Jedi Order.[14]
