"Deysa setten yousa up. Goen through da planet core? Bad bombin'."
―Jar Jar Binks warns Qui-Gon Jinn about the Gungan High Council — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[4]

Teers was an Otolla Gungan female who served as a Rep on the Gungan High Council on her homeworld Naboo. She was in charge of the city Otoh Gunga's power supply and, in 32 BBY, sat in the city's High Board Room while the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi spoke before the council there. She agreed with Boss Rugor Nass when he scorned the Naboo people who the Jedi hoped to warn about a droid army invading Naboo. Teers was later nearby when Nass agreed to an alliance with the Naboo in the Gungan Sacred Place.

Teers was an Otolla Gungan female[2] who was appointed by Boss Rugor Nass[5] as a Rep on the Gungan High Council that governed the Gungan people and ruled the city Otoh Gunga[3] on Teers' homeworld Naboo.[1] Teers was in charge of the city's power supply[5]—which relied on plasma and bubble wort catalyst[6]—and acted as an important female voice on the council.[3]

In 32 BBY,[7] the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi were brought before the High Council[4] in the High Board Room[6] of Otoh Gunga after the exiled Gungan Jar Jar Binks led them to the city. Teers sat directly to the left of Nass in a floating seat with a plasma detonator beneath it while the Jedi explained that they wished to warn the Naboo people about a droid army that the Trade Federation had sent to invade Naboo.[4] The council refused to help,[8] and Teers agreed with Nass when he scorned the Jedi,[2] stating that the Gungans had no love for the Naboo and that the droids were unaware of Otoh Gunga and so posed no threat to his people.[4]

Jinn then persuaded Nass to provide them with a bongo transport to reach the Naboo, with the Boss directing them to travel through Naboo's core to reach the Naboo capital Theed. As the Jedi left, Binks warned them that the council was setting them up for failure, as Naboo's core was extremely dangerous. Jinn then informed Nass that Binks owed him a life debt and so the Boss dismissed Binks to go with the Jedi rather than issuing another punishment upon the exile for returning to the city.[4]

The invading droid army soon forced[4] Teers[9] and the other Gungans to abandon Otoh Gunga and flee to their sacred place. There, the Gungans were approached by Queen Padmé Amidala of the Naboo and her allies, who proposed an alliance between the natives of Naboo to defeat the Trade Federation.[4] Teers was nearby[9] when Nass accepted the proposal, after which the combined efforts of the Gungans and the Naboo defeated the Trade Federation.[4]

Personality and traits

Teers had orange and white skin and yellow eyes.[3]

Equipment

Teers wore a gray rep hood and ornate brown and tan rep robes of office with silver Otoh swirls down the center.[3]

Behind the scenes

Teers first appeared in the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace,[4] which was released on May 19, 1999.[10] Like all the secondary Gungans in the film, her computer-generated model was designed using the model for Jar Jar Binks as a base.[11]

In the current Star Wars canon, Teers's name was first used in the mobile card game Star Wars: Force Collection,[5] which initially launched in 2013. Although the launch of Force Collection predates[12] the Star Wars canon reset of 2014,[13] Lucasfilm Story Group member Leland Chee confirmed that the game was kept updated to fit with canon.[14] The name originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first used in Star Wars: Episode I: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written by David West Reynolds[15] and released on May 26, 1999.[16]
