- "Once those droids take control of the surface, they will take control of you."
- ―Obi-Wan Kenobi predicts the attack on Otoh Gunga in conversation with Boss Rugor Nass
During the Invasion of Naboo, the Trade Federation Droid Army stormed the swamps of Naboo and attacked the Gungan capital of Otoh Gunga.
Prelude
- "My troops are in position to begin searching the swamps for these rumored underwater villages. They will not stay hidden for long."
- ―OOM-9 to Viceroy Nute Gunray
Commander OOM-9 reports the progress of his hunt for the rumored Gungan civilization.
In 32 BBY,[3] the Trade Federation megacorporation launched an invasion of the planet Naboo at the urging of its mysterious benefactor, Darth Sidious. Having arrived just before the crisis escalated, the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn made their way to the surface of Naboo and, with the help of the Gungan exile Jar Jar Binks, traveled to the Gungan capital of Otoh Gunga. There, Boss Rugor Nass ignored Kenobi's warnings that the Federation's battle droids would discover his people.[1]
After the capture of Theed, amid the Federation's occupation of Naboo, OOM command battle droid Commander OOM-9 sent troops to investigate the various Gungan villages on the planet, just as Kenobi had predicted.[1]
The attack
Captain Roos Tarpals (pictured) was vital in warning the people of Otoh Gunga of the coming assault.
The Trade Federation Droid Army stormed the Naboo swamps[6] and discovered the underwater Gungan civilization, including Otoh Gunga. With its discovery,[1] the Droid Army marshalled itself for an attack. Being stationed on the parameter of the city, Captain Roos Tarpals saw the coming assault and, sounding a warning alarm, warned the population about the approaching battle droids. He coordinated the Gungan evacuation into the swamps[5] of Naboo's surface, from which the Gungans retreated to the sacred place.[1]
Aftermath
Otoh Gunga was left abandoned after the attack. After the defeat of the Trade Federation,[1] the Gungans were able to return to their cities.[7]
