Timeline
The programmers preferred to set the game in a little documented period of the Star Wars timeline in order to have more designal frreedom, something which resulted in a vast expansion of the Expanded Universe.

Canon additions
Are the 'New Canon' sections really necessary? I haven't seen a precedent for them in any other article, and they end up almost as long as the rest of the article combined. If they are to be implimented, can't we at least keep it to important aspects of continuity? I mean, do we really need to know, in the macrocanon scheme of things, that Kotor introduced, say, Nemo and killed him off a half-hour later? --Fade 16:17, 14 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- I don't like them either - perhaps as a sub-page, but they just make the article look messy, to be honest. And as you say, there's not a precedent for this. Tam 18:53, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

No Jumping?
Soon after starting this game, I found it to be missing one vital function- to jump. On Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, and all those games involving Kyle Katarn, the player was of course able to jump and jump -very- high.
On KOTOR (and maybe KOTOR II, which I don't have yet), no one is able to jump in the game. The game may take place 4k years before Kyle Katarn's time, but it would sound/feel rather preposterous to think/hypothesize that jumping wasn't invented/discovered back then.
If the character(s) get to jump later, in what part of the game do they start? If there is a key command that I somehow overlooked, what was it? (I thought I reviewed every command in the game though.)
Other than that, why would they intentionally take the ability to jump out of the game? --68.102.193.78 11:00, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

- Same reason why you can't jump in Final Fantasy. It's an RPG, not a platformer or an action game. There's no reason to jump, because you don't need it to avoiding any physical threat - Kwenn 11:02, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
It's a role playing game, not an adventure game. 'Jumping' was implemented into the Dark Forces saga for you to explore all the areas, areas designed to be explored in such a way. However, you CAN jump in KoTOR, but you have to be a jedi guardian. you recieve the 'Force Jump' feat. This basicaly means that in combat, from a certain distance away, and if there is no obstacle between you and the emenmy, selecting DEFAULT ATTACK will cause your selected character to do a jumping attack on the enemy.
Extremely limited camera movements
Another limit is the camera function. in Taris, I wanted to look up in the Lower City and see how high the skyscrapers reached. I also wanted to look down and see the surface. I could not do this.
There was also a gaping hole in the Undercity's ceiling where an escape pod fell through. I'm normally the kind of guy who wants to explore anywhere in the game as thoroughly as possible, so naturally, I wanted to look up and see what I could above the opening. This never happened either.
Was there something to toggle so I could look up and down more freely? If not, why did they limit the camera like this? --68.102.193.78 11:11, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Larger Plot Summary?
Don't you think there should be a larger plot summary, sort of like the one in KOTOR 2? You know, so it just doesn't cover the first planet of the game? --72.25.127.97 22:10, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Why a Dude?
I'm trying to figure out why it's more canonical to have revan a guy I liked revan being a girl because when she is the relationship with carth is much more interesting and its very similar to the Han and Leia Love Story WhiteKnight 21:22, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- wait is it because the KOTORII story is better with a girl and they (the universal "they") dont want to have two stories about girls in a row WhiteKnight 21:25, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- It's really in the eye of the beholder which story is better but Leeland has determined Revan is male due to the large male fan-base and the simplicity of setting it to male since in terms of game mechanics, the value is 0 while female is 1. Exile was only given female to shut the people up who were complaining about how all characters are guys. --Redemption20pxTalk 21:31, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

- Please use punctuation marks to separate your sentences. Leeland is a guy responsible for the Star Wars canon and we don'tknow which face of Revan is canonical MoffRebus 00:41, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- I always thought it should be the other way around. Revan is almost clearly a female, like the OP would like. Just look at the short, feminine figure in the cutscenes, and KotOR II has a special Carth cameo if Revan is established as female and nothing happens if he is established as a male. I don't remember my reasons for the Exile being a male, I think it just makes more sense, especially when you consider his relationship with Atris (not romantic, but the story seems to suggest they had repressed feelings for each other). Plus, the one face for the male Exile with the beard pretty much sums that character up for me. The reason it's the way it is, is because KotOR has thrown several kinks into the canon and Leeland et al would probably prefer it never happened so they didn't have to make decisions like that. If you ask me, KotOR's story is infinitely better than anything pre-A New Hope or post-Return of the Jedi. Eps 1, 2 and 3 sucked. Everything Clone Wars blows. And especially everything written about events after Return should never have been. —Unsigned comment by Ewok Jedi (talk • contribs)
- Please keep opinions off the talk pages, and if you set Revan as male in Sith Lords, Carth does make a cameo at the end if Revan is set to light side.CC 0019 17:08, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Revan is only a man by canon out of nessisity. Lucusarts needed a definte answer to rectify that problem. In addition to that, it could be because the developers wanted to build upon the relationship between Revan and Bastila, prior and during the acutal storyline. Which would explain why Bastila is not a lesbian and Juhani is...

In the Trivia section, Chack Jadson keeps reverting my change. It is incorrect to call KotOR a "prequel" to KotOR 2, as prequels, by definition, are created after the original work. This Article Lacks An Out-of-Universe Perspective
Per se. There's elements of one there but all in all its assumption of the canonical plotline, its lack of spoiler warning (yes, some people don't go to the front page before going to an article), and it's overall tone fits an in-universe perspective more appropriately. While this is good and all for an article like Revan or Carth Onasi it's hardly befitting an article about a strictly out-of-universe topic, like the game.
- "Out-of-Universe refers to the perspective in which an article is written; it is the opposite of in-universe. Something written from an out-of-universe (OOU) perspective is written from a real life point of view. It will refer, for example, to real life publications, actors, authors, events, and so on, acknowledging that its subject is fictional. In contrast, an in-universe perspective will strive for verisimilitude; that is, it will be written as though the author existed within the Star Wars universe. Articles about any in-universe things, such as characters, vehicles, terminology, or species, should always be written from an in universe perspective. If a section in the article is not, such as the listing of a character's published appearances or behind the scenes details, it should be tagged as such. In contrast, articles about books, movies, games, or other real-life Star Wars material should obviously be written from an out-of-universe perspective, but should still be noted as such. Basically, in-universe articles should never refer to Star Wars by name, or any other real life things such as publications, actors, or the like."
- ―Wookieepedia Manual of Style
My suggestion would be to remove references to Revan at the beginning of the article, much as one might not give away the twist of a story in a novel at the beginning of the page. It's not necessary per se that a spoiler warning be put off. A reader should know better than to read the whole story if they don't want a spoiler. But the article makes hardly any attempt at all to hide the twist from a reader and it is entirely possible that such a reader would want to access the article for more than reminding himself what the story was about - like who made the game, various trivia, etc, etc.
Second of all, all references to "he" or "she" should be removed. This is not because I do not support the canon storyline. Hardly. I think Lucas Licensing's decision was made responsibly and I hold no grudge to them. Indeed, I prefer the LSM storyline. That doesn't mean it should be in an out-of-universe perspective. It's more appropriate for an in-universe article, as the aforementioned character articles. But it is not appropriate here, even with a banner letting readers know it is only one option.
Finally, all other remnants of an in-universe perspective should be removed.
Part of the reason for this is that it's ridiculous to assume what is an isn't canonical. While some things, like the LSM identity, are not in question. However - how are we to know that canonically the main character completed the dueling circle challenge on Taris or that they refused to take up the Genoharadan challenge? Lightside ending means just that - light side ending. It's possible that the main character didn't just do every light sided action possible - after all, few characters in the EU have. So very little of what happens in KOTOR is on a definite, canonical basis except for the core elements of the storyline. Niirfa-sa 02:33, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

- This isn't a trivia web site. It's an encyclopedic website. Keep your so-called "cool ideas" in the trash. --Redemption25px(Talk) 02:23, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
General Information
Would anyone object if we added the information such as timeline(when the game takes place), or era to the rest of the general information such as release date, developer, etc? bubbacold 04:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Characters - Mentioned vs. Seen
I've stumbled upon a problem with the characters section. Tulak Hord is mentioned, despite the fact that you never actually SEE him, he is merely mentioned.
Thoughts? Holokin 03:43, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Holokin
- A lot of the charachters are only mentioned. I don't really see a need to make it so it says that on the article but if someone changes it that way, I won't change it back. NaruHina Talk 20px 23:53, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- This is why we have the (Mentioned only) template. Appearances are different; if the character is seen/mentioned somewhere else, they don't get a template. If it's the first time they're seen, they get (First appearance) and if it's a first mention, they get (First mentioned).--Goodwood 20px (Alliance Intelligence) 00:00, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- If someone wanted to know all of the characters that were seen and mentioned in KOTOR, or learn more about them, they would have to randomly sort through pages to see if the subject was mentioned in KOTOR if we didn't include Mentioned only's in the main KOTOR article. Javyar
There is no mention at all of Javyar, allegid owner of Javyar's Cantina, other than the name of the bar. For all we know, it could have been owned by Davik or the Vulkers. I think it should be removed does anyone concur? NaruHina Talk 20px 04:52, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Unless proven otherwise, I can only agree. -TheLostJedi 01:46, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Javyar was deleted. NaruHina Talk 20px 19:33, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Page length
Seeing as how the dramatis personae currently occupies a significant portion of the article, would it be a better idea to make a link to an article, say "List of characters in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic," and limit the section on this page to a brief discussion of the characters with asterisks next to their names? The same could be done for the synopsis, giving a summary of the game's plot with a link to a more extensive description. It would do wonders in shortening page length and loading time. Kebla 18:11, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have dial-up and it loaded just fine the first time I read this article. NaruHina Talk 20px 01:52, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, the page loads fine for me too. Maybe I could've put it better. My point was more that the plot summary and list of characters occupy the bulk of the article when that space could be better put to use expanding on other sections and writing new ones. Kebla 07:09, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Armor
Would the different types of armor fall under the weapons ond technolgy section or does it need its own section]? we have articles on specific armors like Exar Kun's Light Battle Suit or Republic mod armor tha I feel should have a place in the article. NaruHina Talk 20px 05:35, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Weapons and Tecnolegy section
I can't get the wikicode for dividing the list into two and putting them next to eachother work. Could someone else do it. NaruHina Talk 20px 17:30, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Canonical Light?
I was under the impression that by the tone set in KOTOR2 that the canonical path was the dark side not vice versa.
- Well, the canonical path is light side. - Kingpin13Cantina Battle Ground 10:19, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Ajunta Pall
This paragraph is in the middle of the section in the summary for Korriban:
At some point Revan, most likely in an attempt to receive prestige, explored and raided the tomb of the ancient Sith Lord Ajunta Pall. This was complicated by the fact that the Sith Lord himself had survived the many centuries since his death as an embittered Force ghost. Ajunta Pall demanded that Revan locate his infamous blade, taking it with him when he left the tomb. Revan retrieved the blade as well as two more besides. Revan then persuaded the dark specter that he could at last find peace if he was willing to seek redemption. At last giving into the light, Ajunta faded away, redeemed by Revan.
First off, this is a side quest that has no real impact to the story other than prestige points. Second, no other side quests are even mentioned at all. I think it should be removed. NaruHina Talk 20px 21:51, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- Third, it was confirmed by K2. --Redemption25px(Talk) 04:14, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- That may be so but, the way Wookieepedia has been doing things, all light side options are confirmed, yet no other sidequests with lightsided endings are mentioned in the article. NaruHina Talk 20px 23:08, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
