I might be a little narrow-viewed about this, but I don't think that Hararr should be eligible for the Featured User of October if he's left. Am I mistaken?Jaygo Katarr 13:50, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

An ad change

Hi all. Wikia is about to enter a phase of experimenting with advertisements. Basically, we need to find out what combination of ads will work to allow Wikia to succeed. It's going to be a balancing act, and I know we are not going to be able to please everyone! But hopefully we can find the right combination. So, the first thing that we need is to add is a 300x250 box on the main page of several wikis. WoWWiki has had this for a while, Muppet is putting it in place this week as are a few others in this group. To make this look right, the main page will need adjusting to have a 300px fixed column - otherwise the ad will push the header down and look awful. I'm going to start a suggested layout at Main Page/temp2 so I can show you what's needed, please edit away and help get it ready! Thanks all, and as usual I'll be around here and on IRC for questions etc. -- sannse (talk) 17:01, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

On second thoughts, I'm going to need to get some help with Main Page/temp2... Wookieepedia's main page is so complicated :-/ -- sannse (talk) 18:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
OK! I think it's looking about right now! Please have a look :) -- sannse (talk) 19:27, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
  • What the F?!# happened to the main page?! It's frickin green! It looks horrible! Does this have anything to do with the changes? I hope this is just my computer, but I don't think so. Darth Shohet 18:10, June 20, 2008
  • Please tell me that the format will change- the pages are backwards, and its giving me headaches. I hope that this is only temporary. The old format was better, or at least more natural.
  • Sorry. It's gone. Darth Shohet 19:48, June 21, 2008
  • The google add on the right side of the main page totally screws up all the "Did you know" boxes on the right... it pushes them down too far. Freedon 02:04, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Maybe it would work better with "Did you know" in the left column? -- sannse (talk) 08:31, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Those damned ads and more of their kind are still there! Drake Lothus 14:13, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Take it easy. Maybe you've got adware or something on your computer. Graestan(Talk) 16:44, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
yes, it looks like it's adware. There's more on this here (note that I have no idea how good or safe this help is, so take care!) -- sannse (talk) 12:02, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately I don't think it's adware. I'm currently using my cousin's PC, and those weird ads are still there.=/ Drake Lothus 19:02, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

  • That's enough. Wookieepedia is not responsible for Wikia ad choices. Go to the help wiki as sannse suggested, please, and do not continue to post here about it. Thank you. Graestan(Talk) 21:09, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Redesigned page for Monobook

  • Hi, when the ad change came in (see above), the monobook page for me (hope it's not just me) seems to have an error. The heading section with the title and the amount of pages still has the width that the full page, which the usual page doesn't. Instead, it overlaps with the "in the news" section. Would someone please be able to fix this? (sorry if I didn't explain this too well- i can upload an image if needed) thanks, NighthawkLeader 06:40, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Yeah, I have the same problem as Nighthawk. The "In the News" section is covering up half of the main header bar - not a huge problem but it looks a little messy. I had just thought it was my computer's problem, but if other people have that too... Aqua Unasi 15:29, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Can one, or both of you, please post screen shots of what you are seeing? When I switch my skin to Monobook, I don't see the error as described. A screenshot might help. Thanks, Greyman(Talk) 15:33, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Oh sorry, I'm actually on the Monaco skin, not Monobook like Nighthawk. I'll try to get a screenshot but it might be easier for Nighthawk to do it because I'm a bit pressed for time. Aqua Unasi 15:42, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
      • I may have fixed it... there was a "nowrap" in there, so the columns had to overlap when the width was reduced. Does it look right now? -- sannse (talk) 16:04, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Yup, much better. Thanks Aqua Unasi 16:09, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
      • Everything looks good to me too now- thanks to everyone who worked on it :) NighthawkLeader 06:17, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
        • Yeah whatever you guys did by squeezing the header over allowed for normal placement of the News section. -- Riffsyphon1024 15:29, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Cool, now all is sorted, it's time for the final stage. The page won't break when I turn on the second ad now... so here goes! -- sannse (talk) 18:17, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Rounded Corners

What is the code to make the corners on the Main Page rounded? (Quote of the Day, Featured Article)

Battlefront III article needed

Why don't we have an article for BF III? Amazon.com has even listed Battlefront II once, even though they took it down to keep the project a secret... We have just as much proof of Battlefront III as we've had for KotOR III. --The Wolfe22 16:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Well, considering we don't have a KoTOR III article... -- I need a name (Complain here) 20:08, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
    • Yes we do. It's right here.--The Wolfe22 01:14, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
      • By the way, I didn't mean to type "Battlefront II." (That was meant to be a three, in case you didn't know.)--The Wolfe22 01:15, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
  • The BFIII project was cancelled. The company that was manufacturing it was bought and the project cancelled. Happy editing! brightfur 01:38, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

Glitch

There is an annoying glitch on the Main Page. Normally when you type an article name, possibilties show up on a scroll bar, but now the Scroll bar is covered up.Da Securaster 19:19, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Ads

The ads are messed up and covering up some of the Main Page and in some occasions: Coming of the Main Page. Can this please be fixed soon?

  • What is with these annoying pop up / drop down ads that are seriously effecting the usability of the main page?! Is wookieepedia such a sellout to sacrifice it's integrity and hard work of thousands of dedicated users, to just plaster ads all over it's main page to the point of driving people away? Seriously, it's getting out of hand, where does it stop?! —Unsigned comment by Danzig Corridor (talk • contribs)
  • Do you think we have any control whatsoever over the ads. No. We don't. Blame Wikia. Anyway, I don't see anything. Can you specify / grab a screenshot? 1358 (Talk) 09:53, April 3, 2011 (UTC)
    • Like Xd said, we don't control the ads. There are instructions on how to report them to Wikia HERE, which is what you should actually do in this event. NAYAYEN—it appears to be a frammistat 13:22, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

An Idea

I'm not entirely certain where to post this suggestion, and I'm not sure if it's even possible, but if it is, it would be very useful to have a feature that would let you view articles that fit into multiple categories. What I'm trying to say is, some way to view, for example, a male Human post-Ruusan Jedi, instead of being able to search only one category at a time. If there's any way to do that, it would make my life as a Star Wars nerd and fanficcer much, much easier. :) --Crazy Jedi Girl 20:49, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Featured picture

I think it would be a good idea to have a "Featured picture" section on the Main Page. I've done-up an example of what a Featured picture section might look like... User:WHLfan/Main Page What do you think? WHLfan (talk to me!) 05:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

QotD template error

Something's wrong with the Quote of the Day; it's showing the description of the quote and its source, rather than the quote itself (to clarify, the desc. where the quote would be, and the source where the desc. would be, with the source itself non-existent). Is this just my computer going nuts or can someone see it as well? Firebird 14:04, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

  • On mine it looks normal (I think) but it doesn't have a source. - Kingpin13Cantina Battle Ground 14:11, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

It reads...

"Admiral Niathal finally realizes the extent of Jacen Solo's madness"
―Revelation

...when it should read...

"Great gods of the waters, is Solo insane?"
―Admiral Niathal finally realizes the extent of Jacen Solo's madness[src]

That better? Firebird 14:26, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Ahh, I thought the wording was slightly strange. Also, when I look at it I don't even get the red link to source, it's just nothing. - Kingpin13Cantina Battle Ground 14:29, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
    • Fixed, but now the closing quote mark is in bold. -- I need a name (Complain here) 14:32, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Featured article typo

the featured article about has a typo. "Only when she faced Qel-Droma, and he refused to fight back did, she finally understand her error and return to the light. "

Question From the Phineas and Ferb Wiki

Hello. The Phineas and Ferb Wiki has above image templates, like the one on this site, but you can't have 2 on the top of a page. I would like to ask how the "Eraicon" and "Eras" templates work, because I can't understand how to get to do so on the PF Wiki. Thanks. --SuperFlash101 00:30, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

An EU article purge on April 1st, how nice. Ldude893 07:08, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

  • My thoughts exactly. Anyone else notice the, "Did You Know?", and the fact that Lucas NEVER said movies were only canon? The quote about him never reading the books? Lie. I read an interview where he discussed the Legacy of the Force series, and how he'd enjoyed reading them. Nice try, Wookieepedia. Not as funny as Kylepedia last year. I think the real missed opportunity was not proclaiming that Supershadow is indeed George Lucas' best friend and everything hes every written is true. Now there's an April Fool's Day joke to celebrate... Medleystudios72 14:10, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Actually, its just a cleverly shorted version of this quote, which as far as I know, is real. "I don't read that stuff. I haven't read any of the novels. I don't know anything about that world. That's a different world than my world. But I do try to keep it consistent. The way I do it now is they have a Star Wars Encyclopedia. So if I come up with a name or something else, I look it up and see if it has already been used. When I said [other people] could make their own Star Wars stories, we decided that, like Star Trek, we would have two universes: My universe and then this other one. They try to make their universe as consistent with mine as possible, but obviously they get enthusiastic and want to go off in other directions."

―George Lucas, from an interview in Starlog #337[src] Well played, WP, well played.--Kierjan 23:42, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Firefly Design Group

Hey, I've recently become involved with a group called Firefly, we are currently getting others to link to us and in turn link to them. I think Wookiepedia should link to us(Firefly) and we to you.

What the group is is a 3d modelling group making models for various people. Mainly with the intent of making models for game mods.

Past Tense

What is up with the past tense on this site? Every single article has it. For example the Human article states "Humans were the galaxy's most numerous and politically dominant sentient species with millions of major and minor colonies galaxywide." Since when did Humans and every other race die off in the Star Wars universe? SeaTerror 03:20, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

  • They may very well have. Star Wars is set "a long time ago." Everything in the SW universe has thus already happened, and we don't know what the GFFA would be in the present. Dr. Kermit(Complain.) 03:38, April 7, 2010 (UTC)
  • To quote from the Manual of Style...
All in-universe articles should be in past tense, per the quote above.
The reasons for this are twofold. Firstly, the articles on Wookieepedia are presented as historical recordings that have been pieced together from scraps of information left over from the Star Wars era. As such, all details pertaining to this history have not yet been uncovered, and more information may be added at a later date. Keeping articles written in past tense provides consistency and flavor. Secondly, the Star Wars universe takes place a long, long time ago, in the past (at least compared to the time the narrative is set in). Writing in-universe articles in past tense properly relates the timeline of that universe with our own perspective.
Despite this, do not include phrases like "his ultimate fate is unknown" or "what happened to the ship after that is a mystery."
Past tense also sounds more professional. Trak Nar Ramble on 03:42, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

You do realize that the full quote is "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." right? It's speculation saying all races are dead. It would make sense to put it past tense if the quote was actually. "A long time ago in the Milky Way Galaxy..." or some other known galaxy. Although if we want to be technical the entire Star Wars universe contains more than one galaxy. SeaTerror 20:28, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

  • What does the fact that takes place in a far away galaxy have to do with it? Chack Jadson (Talk) 20:35, April 7, 2010 (UTC)
  • It's speculation that they're alive, too. "Always use past tense" is a stylistic convention, not a verdict on the state of the topic in question. We also use past tense in articles like planet, asteroid, and black hole, things that all clearly still exist in our universe. jSarek 21:01, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

I'm not gonna swear at all, even if I want to do that very, very, goddamn, much. Is there any way to restore old interface of Wookieepedia? At least for me? I mean... this new design is completely ridiculous. I can't find anything, I lost my orientation here. Please, guys. Loc - Dyskusja użytkownika:Loc00|Speak!, 12:47, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Monaco is dead (or soon to be), so you're out of luck there. Your other option is the favorite skin here, Monobook. Just set it in your preferences here. And as a general note to anyone who comes to this page to comment on the new skin and can't read the big text at the top of the page, please use the Senate Hall for those issues. There is a forum specifically about the new skin there too. NAYAYEN 13:05, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, thanks. What big text do you mean? I can't see that one. And about Monaco - I am still able to use it. Why does it have to disappear? It's a good skin if you ask me. Loc - Dyskusja użytkownika:Loc00|Speak!, 13:09, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
It is too expensive to upkeep three major skins at the same time. (Monaco, Monobook and the new) Monobook is a very simple skin, which is why we can use it (not expensive to upkeep), but Monaco is way more complicated and expensive to upkeep. 1358 (Talk) 13:12, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
This big text at the top of the page. Monaco is going to be retired soon (today I think). Xd explained it neatly, but see the Wikia Staff blogs for more info on the skin change. NAYAYEN 13:16, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Could someone fix the images or remove them entirely? Theyre not on the edit source so I'm assuming no, but the thumbnails need help!--The Great and Grand Count Mall! 03:33, December 16, 2010 (UTC)

  • This is not the place to ask it. First, I advise you to take a look at your own talk page if there are any warnings; those might explain it. If not, your edits probably violated a Wookieepedia policy. 1358 (Talk) 19:56, January 7, 2011 (UTC)

To whom it may concern

To whom it may concern, I have "adopted" the Astromech Droid wiki. I feel that an important partnership in our early growth period (as in... right now) would be the partnership between Astropedia and Wookieepedia. i have extended a similar offer to the Star Wars fanon wiki. I would very much appreciate it if Wookieepedia and Astropedia became official partners. Thank you.Gnost-Dural| Hands off the holocrons, THEY'RE MINE!! 21:02, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

    • If you have a later-gen computer monitor, the 3D effect should be automatic. If not, you have to get a pair of glasses. The best way to get them is to see a 3D movie but keep the glasses afterward. We're slowly working our way through the images on the site to convert them to 3D, but it will take some time to do them all. We're up to D. ~ SavageBob 04:09, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

  • The word from the WP:CABAL|cabal is that this 3D effect was a compromise we had to make with LFL to continue the life of the Wiki. They sent us a cease and desist letter, claiming that we were violating their copyright and trademark. However, they agreed to allow us to continue functioning provided we promote the upcoming 3D releases of the films. This is our way of doing that. In short, if you don't like the 3D, blame George Lucas. ~ SavageBob 20:46, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

I think the most complaints come from not being able to turn the affect off. I mean, if there was a way for the User to turn it off (like by switching layouts) then it would be cool. Also, if there was a way to turn this into a separate Layout for those that would like to keep this Format after today, I think that would also be cool.Altyrell 20:09, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

you know, as "funny" as this is for some of you, it's not really that clever, or good, or a lot of things. telling those who say they dislike such jokes as this to deal with it, will only drive people away. as will first time visitors who are seeing this and have no understanding it isn't how the site normally looks. so, good job people :D --Mika Zarosia 22:35, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

  • For future reference, a good website April Fools joke is (1) funny and (2) easily dismissed so you can get on with normal site usage after the laugh. The "cease and desist" notice that lasted on the site all of 5 minutes failed rule (1), so good job pulling that one. I'll be kind and say they 3D thing is moderately funny, perhaps worth a half-chortle, but it fails rule (2). • So after some communication between members of the administration, and after considering the "fair use" violation that brought down the temporary cease and desist from Lucasfilm Ltd., it was determined that 3-D would not be beneficial to the expansion of the site, so for the time being it has been deactivated. Search engine too literal

Lately the search engine has gotten irritatingly picky. I type in something, and if the spelling and grammar isn't EXACTLY like it is in the page title, it goes straight to the search page, even admitting at the top that "There is a page named "Firefighter droid" on this wiki". This new system of searching is inferior, time-wasting, and irritating. I don't know if there's anything anybody can do about that, or if its another issue with the wiki server itself. Either way, I thought I should let people know.--The Great and Grand Count Mall!(Bow down before me!) 23:17, April 27, 2012 (UTC)

Focus of this wiki

I noticed this wiki stays more true to the Expanded Universe than to the movies. (for instance, in the Expanded Universe, Pig Nose and Scott (that's what Family Guy Blue Harvest calls them, they go unnamed in the official script) survive Obi-Wan's attack, while in the actual movie, they are killed by Obi-Wan, as the bartender "takes an interest in his handiwork". (I would like to mention focusing more on the special editions rather than the original, particularly regarding Anakin's ghost and the sarlacc, but that's still considered a movie so I won't make it part of this) Not to mention Jabba's band going with him on the Sail Barge to the Pit of Carkoon (and subsequently being blown up by Luke) in the movie while in the EU they don't go there and survive.

If you want to go by the EU as more canon than the movies (or at least what they imply), then here would be a good line to put up there: "Our allegiance is to the Expanded Universe, not to its source material." Ghostkaiba297 (talk) 05:52, August 1, 2012 (UTC)

  • Star Wars is a franchise that keeps on growing and changing with time beyond the Original trilogy. Our job is to follow what's presented by George Lucas and Lucasfilm Ltd., not to simply pick and choose what we want to preserve and present. That's the purpose of Wookieepedia. If you dislike some official material, that is fine, but we don't have the power to override it. CC7567 (talk) 05:58, August 1, 2012 (UTC)

Quote problems on Spiderwick Wiki

Hey there, sorry if I'm asking this question at the wrong forum, but I REALLY need help. I don't edit very much on Wookieepedia, even though I am a pretty big Star Wars fan. I think you guys are doing great without me coming in and editing all articles so they sink below standard.

But now I'm going off the subject. My problem is that on Spiderwick Wiki, which was really in need of editing when I registered there, have some glitch that makes it impossible to write quotes who make sense. If you insert the Quote template, it comes up a text about some jerk saying that Goblins are stupid or something like that. It doesn't make sense at all. But if I try to do the exact same thing on Wookieepedia, it works exactly the way it should. How do I fix the quotes on Spiderwick Wiki?

Sorry for my bad English, I'm Swedish, you know. --SimHobgoblin32 (talk) 10:13, September 8, 2012 (UTC)

  • Your Template:Quote is probably your trouble. You'll have to code it to match our Template:Quote, some other version of our quotes templates, or some other wiki's quote template. SinisterSamurai (talk) 15:06, September 8, 2012 (UTC)
