7.1 New message

How is this affecting the canon of Depa Bilaba? This character's backstory seems to indicate he was her Padawan right up until Order 66, though the Shatterpoint novel depicts Bilaba as having succumbed to the dark side and insanity while on Haruun Kal (shortly after the beginning of the Clone Wars), basically spending the rest of her life in a catatonic state. Unsigned comment by Q-Wing (talk • contribs)

  • Nothing from any expanded universe novel, video game, comic book or other EU source is canon anymore, by decree of Lucasfilm/Disney. "Shatterpoint" is non-canon, so Bilaba never fell to the dark-side, and according to canon Rebels-related materials was killed during Order 66.--TK-255 (talk) 15:30, October 5, 2014 (UTC)
    • Could you please explain the whole idea of what's canon and what's not? Because it's all really confusing...As to the message, are we sure that Kanan was her official apprentice? What if she was an informal master? It just sounds like speculation is all...--Fekyu (talk) 17:51, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
      • Please read Star Wars Legends and canon for more info about what is and isn't canon. If you still have questions, ask me on my talk page. ProfessorTofty (talk) 18:00, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
        • and what of my other question?--Fekyu (talk) 22:23, November 8, 2014 (UTC)

Soren Firebolt & Reeve Rasket?

The article states (united) that "[h]e also met Jedi Knight Soren Firebolt, who he considered as "bold, disciplined, and great" while in the ways of the Force. He would later in sixteen years meet him again, and his Padawan learner, Reeve Rasket."

Neither name shows up anywhere in a Google search, except in this article (neither does the quote "bold, disciplined, and great" in relation to Kanan). Does anyone know who they are? Is this vandalism? --Archimedean (talk) 03:13, April 8, 2015 (UTC)

Most likely. Neither character is mentioned anywhere on the Internet, and if they do exist, they would only be minor. They aren't even mentioned in fanon pages. 13:15, March 4, 2021 (UTC)

Topps' Trading Cards additional info on Kanan Jarrus

Topp's Star Wars Trading Card, specifically the "Connections Series / Hera Syndulla + Kanan Jarrus" card, has the following text on its backside:

Raised on Coruscant, Kanan Jarrus began his Jedi Training under Obi-Wan Kenobi and later Depa Billaba, until she was executed during Order 66. Kanan escaped, eventually meeting Hera Syndulla and joining the crew of the Ghost.[1]
(Boldfaced part mine)

Do we consider Topps Trading Cards to be a Canon Source? If so, what to make about the boldfaced part?

 [ pepoluan talk ] 11:52, June 3, 2015 (UTC)

  • We sort of went with it when it came to the height of Kitwarr - that's sourced from a trading card, and I was the one who added that info. It's been there for months without being removed. Still, you might want to open a discussion on the Senate Hall regarding this. ProfessorTofty (talk) 12:10, June 3, 2015 (UTC)
    • I say we reopen that suggestion. I have some new ideas of how we should categorize the cards. - AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 19:16, June 3, 2015 (UTC)
      • That's just a reference to the events of the A New Dawn prologue. At the time, when Caleb was part of the group that received a lesson from Obi-Wan, he was not yet Billaba's Padawan. She was simply circling him to, soon thereafter, take him as his Padawan. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:25, June 3, 2015 (UTC)
        • The cover of Kanan 7 makes me wonder, though. If the cover was 'kind of' representing the story inside, then the cover would be depicting Billaba "emerging from -- whatever it is she emerged from" (reference to Kanan #1). But at that moment, Caleb already has a Padawan's braids.
Of course, a comic cover isn't always an accurate indication of the comic's contents. So, I'm just wondering aloud :-)

SWR Magazine Comics Stories

SWR Magazine had published several comic episodes of the Ghost crew. Should these be added to the article? And how will we do that, because the timeline for (most) of these comics are not yet certain?  [ pepoluan talk ] 05:53, August 31, 2015 (UTC)

  • Yes, those should be added to the article. In regards to their timeline placement, they can be pretty much put at any point in-between the events of the TV series, until some sort of Rebels guide places them in a cohesive timeline, if such a guide will ever come out. Some comic strips' placement can be narrowed down (The Fake Jedi, for example, features Kanan dueling the Inquisitor, so the comic should take place after "Rise of the Old Masters"), but most of them are standalone stories, so our best bet at this point is to guess. QuiGonJinn Senate seal(Talk) 10:06, August 31, 2015 (UTC)
    • Maybe use release dates as a guide. Is there some kind of tempate we can add to show we are not 100% sure of timeline? Overlordjeff (talk) 10:16, August 31, 2015 (UTC)
      • Unfortunately, release dates are not of much help. Martin Fisher's tweet strongly implies that a later release date does not always mean a later in-universe date, due to 'approval delays'.  [ pepoluan talk ] 02:14, September 17, 2015 (UTC)

Force Wall?

In Kanan Jarrus#Force_Abilities, someone wrote

Kaman and Ezra were able to break through Darth Vader's force wall.

Aside from the misspelling, I don't remember Vader doing any "Force Wall" that Jarrus & Bridger 'broke through'...

Can someone jog my memory on this ever happening? If it doesn't, I think the sentence should be deleted.  [ pepoluan talk ] 07:56, September 21, 2015 (UTC)

  • Since no one responded with any proof, I'm deleting the sentence.  [ pepoluan talk ] 21:56, November 7, 2015 (UTC)

Kanan Jarrus is much like Obi-Wan Kenobi

Fans says he much like Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Because they both wise & noble Jedi Masters as one of the reasons why

  • This isn't a discussion on the character Kanan. SenatorConfer (talk) 00:59, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

Shouldn't Sabine be counted as one of Kanan's apprentices?

While Sabine is certainly not Force-sensitive (for now, anyway), shouldn't she be counted as one of Kanan's apprentices since he teaches her how to use the Darksaber101.190.255.52 23:28, January 17, 2017 (UTC)

  • In essence I agree. However, it seems the word "apprentice" is used to denote the tutelage of a Force Sensitive by another Force Sensitive. So, I won't change it just now.  [ pepoluan talk ] 04:23, January 19, 2017 (UTC)

Spoilery picture at the top of the page?

Just a suggestion: Wouldn't it be better to choose a picture from Season 1 or 2 at the top of the page for Kanan, and maybe even remove the (blind) under eye colour (because "pale" should be enough)? There is in fact a spoiler warning at the top of the page, but particularly the picture gives it away even if you try not to read anything - pictures cannot be ignored as easily as texts. So even if you end up on Kanan's page by accident, you're immediately spoiled. --Nerdabette (talk) 16:49, February 1, 2017 (UTC)

Dume or Jarrus

Would it not be best to refer to him by the same name all throughout? Duke of Skibbington 04:44, April 1, 2017 (UTC)

  • I disagree. Even in the A New Dawn novel, Kanan refers to his past self as Caleb. The two phases of his life needs explicit identification.  [ pepoluan talk ] 06:40, May 21, 2017 (UTC)

Force Sight?

Just something worth nothing but, wouldn't Kanan's ability to see through the Force post-blind constitute Force Sight or a form of it? If so then we should add that to his abilities repertoire and description too. --BGMaxie (talk) 22:16, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

  • A source would need to say that before we can add anything like that --Lewisr (talk) 22:36, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
    • I get what you mean with that, then again checking at http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force_sight its definition and overview, very much everything falls in line with what Bendu instructed him to do, i.e. he doesn't say "Force Sight" but is implicit information that it is such a thing, that should count as a "source" given it matches what defines Force Sight (even more when the page describes blind users relying on Force Sight for vision, which is Kanan's situation). Food for thought, but Bendu's description of his teachings should count imo. --BGMaxie (talk) 03:26, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
      • Whilst true, that's a legends page and has no bearing on a canon page, we still need a canon source to identify Force sight as a Force power in canon before we could begin to think of adding anything like that to Kanan's page --Lewisr (talk) 03:29, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
      • You bring in an interesting point, which leads me to ask, when have Force powers been referred by name in canon? At least that I'm aware most of the namings like Force Choke or Force Lightning come from Legend sources. Could you illustrate please if there is any canon naming of the abilities? --BGMaxie (talk) 22:28, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
        • Good point, all those should actually say where they were identified as such. Well Force lightning is identified in its databank on StarWars.com and the same with Force choke --Lewisr (talk) 22:39, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
        • Hmmmmm interesting, but that databank seems incomplete. Stuff like Force Pull is missing, even tho it is has been used repeatedly in canon. --BGMaxie (talk) 19:58, February 16, 2018 (UTC)
          • Of course but we can still use it as a source --Lewisr (talk) 19:59, February 16, 2018 (UTC)

Why is the page not named Caleb Dume

Why is the page named Kanan Jarrus and not Caleb Dume? Caleb Dume was his birth name, therefore the page should be named that. First Emperor of the Global Empire (talk) 14:43, August 1, 2020 (UTC)

  • Because as the naming policy states 'Whenever alternate names are used in canon, use the name under which the subject was known during the later time period (example: Kanan Jarrus instead of Caleb Dume).' Kanan was using the name Kanan rather than Caleb at the time of rebels, so that's what we should have the page named at --Lewisr (talk) 14:48, August 1, 2020 (UTC)
    • But that literally makes no sense at all. Why not use birth names? First Emperor of the Global Empire (talk) 20:59, September 28, 2020 (UTC)
      • Because he changed his name from Caleb Dume to Kanan Jarrus, and there's currently no evidence he changed it back --Lewisr (talk) 21:04, September 28, 2020 (UTC)

Another continuity inconsistency

The episode Practice Makes Perfect from Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi contradict the Kanan comics? I mean didn’t Kanan/Caleb meet Depa Billaba late in the war? (talk) SW-CanonDetailer01 19:26, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

  • I've just reread issue 7 of the Kanan comics. The first time Kanan catches sight of Depa's obscured form in the bacta tank, he wonders who she is and "why" he feels like he knows her. I feel like there's enough room there to enter a retcon that he's remembering their early meeting of "hanging out" as seen in the Tales of the Jedi episode like Matt Martin says.
