Plot summary
In Wild Space
On the Star Herald in Wild Space, CR-8R "Crater" is angry with Emil Graf's Kowakian monkey-lizard, Noni, who had stolen Crater's laser welder. The angry droid tells Emil that he needed the laser welder to fix the power stabilizers and that Noni knew that his repulsors were not working like they should, so he cannot fly up and steal the laser welder back. Crater states he has never understood the Graf family's obsession with Kowakian monkey-lizards, including the obsession of Emil's grandfather, Milo Graf, whom Crater often tried to convince to get a more appealing pet. The BB-series astromech droid BB-00 beeps to Emil about Crater's complaining, which Emil agrees with, but acknowledges that Crater has a point. It reminds him of a story his great aunt Lina Graf told him about something that happened a long time ago.
Stopping a thief
During the days of the Galactic Republic,[3] a Jedi Knight by the name Obi-Wan Kenobi sits down at Dex's Diner, placing a device down next to him. A Pa'lowick sat nearby gets up to steal the device. Dexter Jettster calls for the thief to be stopped. The Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi, leaves the diner to track down the thief. After maneuvering through a crowd, Obi-Wan catches up to the thief, who stands at the edge of the street before leaping across lanes of speeders to get to the other side. Emil Graf continues the story, telling Crater that the thief, Tri Tellon could not believe her luck.
Now back at her home that she shares with Magreda, she tells her conspirator she suspects the Jedi's device has mystical powers and could make them very rich. Tri grows suspicious that Magreda is not responding when normally he would be pleased with such a theft. "Magreda" turns around and reveals themselves as Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is very pleased to apprehend the thief. The Jedi uses the Force to grab the device back as Jettster blocks off Tri's exit route. The device turns out to be a paperweight with a hidden tracker inside. Kenobi allowed the item to stolen by Tellon so that she would lead he and Jettster to her treasure trove of objects stolen by patrons of Dex's Diner. Dex thanks Obi-Wan for helping him recover the stolen items and putting a stop to Tellon's thievery.
Learning a lesson
Back on the Star Hound, Emil Graf tells Crater that the lesson of the story is that most of the time, you are not half as smart as you think you are. Crater agrees and activates the sprinkler system, scaring Noni and making her drop the laser welder. Emil returns the laser welder to Crater and the droid asks if he wants nerfburgers for dinner.

- ↑ 3.0 3.1 As shown in "The Lost Stories, Part 3," the events of all the Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Wild Space comics are set a relatively short time apart. "Tales from Wild Space: The Best Pet" depicts CR-8R being aware of the events following those of Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, and "The Lost Stories, Part 1" features the First Order. Star Wars: Timelines places The Last Jedi and fall of the First Order to 34 ABY and 35 ABY, respectively. Therefore, the Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Wild Space comics must take place at some point between those years.
