Suspensas were Naboo fashion accessories that consisted of a dangling ornament, such as gold-colored orichalc chains, strings of white veda pearls and glass filaments, or black beads.[2] When the human female Padmé Amidala was the Queen of Naboo, she wore them with multiple royal garments.[1] Her Shiraya fan headdress had clusters of glass filaments in a "veil of tears" that suggested her profound sadness.[3] Many of her suspensa ornaments came from the treasure rooms in Theed Royal Palace.[2]
At the end of the Clone Wars, when Amidala was the Senator of her homeworld, she wore a pair of heirloom suspensas on her earlobes[4] when she told her husband, Anakin Skywalker, that she was pregnant.[5]
Behind the scenes
Suspensas first appeared in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[1] They were first identified in the 1999 reference book Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary, which was written by David West Reynolds.[6]
