The stealth ship was a prototype IPV-2C Stealth Corvette developed for the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars that was used by the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker to break Admiral Trench's blockade of the planet Christophsis.
Description
The stealth ship was originally designed by Sienar Design Systems[1] for use in the Navy of the Galactic Republic.[6] It was triangular shaped, had a modular hull, and was 99.7 meters (327 feet) in length.[1]
During its Republic service, it had no hyperdrive,[1] and it could be carried in the bay of a Venator-class Star Destroyer.[4]
History
Not long after the Battle of Geonosis,[7] during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Separatists invaded and captured the Outer Rim Territories planet Christophsis.[3] Anticipating a Republic counterattack, the Separatists set up a thirty-ship armada under Harch Admiral Trench to blockade of the planet, while on the surface, General Worm Loathsom tried to eliminate Bail Organa's relief mission.[7] Kenobi ordered Skywalker and Yularen to use the stealth ship to get supplies to Senator Organa on the surface. However, Skywalker disobeyed these orders and attempted to sneak attack Trench's flagship, the[3] Providence-class Dreadnought[4] Invincible. He decloaked the ship to and fired its proton torpedoes at the Invincible's bridge.
However, these where repelled by the Invincible's thermal shields. Trench broadcasted on open com that that he had dealt with stealth ships before. Skywalker contacted Kenobi from the stealth ship and Kenobi searched through Admiral Trench's military records,[3] discovering that Trench tracked cloaked ships by the magnetic signature. The ship fired four more torpedoes. While its cloaking devices were reengaging, the Invincible locked on to the ship's magnetic signature. The Invincible deactivated its own shields and fired tracking torpedoes. The ship then decloaked, transferred all power to the engines, and flew toward the bridge. The missiles slammed into the unprotected bridge, and the Invincible was destroyed,[4] breaking the blockade and allowing Republic troops to reach the surface.[3]
Years later, Wilhuff Tarkin's personal starship the Carrion Spike was inspired by the design of the stealth ship.[8]
Behind the scenes
The stealth ship first appeared in Cat and Mouse,[4] a 2010 episode part of the second season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[9]
Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon 96 claimed that the stealth ship was remodeled and turned into the Carrion Spike, a ship based on the stealth ship that was introduced in the 2014 novel Tarkin;[10] however, the issue conflicts with the timeline placement of the ship's appearance in Darth Vader Annual 2, and the 2024 reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy directly confirmed the two to be separate ships.[8]
