Spirana was an astronomical object in the Spirana system in the Inner Rim Territories situated along the Corellian Run.

Description

Spirana was a terrestrial astronomical object located[4] in the Spirana system in an intersecting portion of the Inner Rim Territories[1] and the Interior.[2] Situated at the coordinates N-13 on the Standard Galactic Grid, it lay along the Corellian Run[3] super-hyperroute[5] between the astronomical objects Rhommamool and Denon, the latter being a junction with the Hydian Way[3] super-hyperroute.[5]

History

Settling veterans

Between 5 ABY and around 6 ABY,[6] Yrica Quell, a veteran of the Galactic Civil War, began working as a cargo-operator on Spirana. Eleven months after the war, the Theelin Chass na Chadic, who had served with Quell in the New Republic, traveled to Quell's house on Spirana after having struggled to settle down on the[4] planet[7] Corulag. Chadic insisted that Quell owed her after their time during the war and asked for work. Quell let her work with her thereafter, and the Theelin moved in. Quell thus continued work with Chadic by her side, and they kept afloat with a long-term contract with a local medcenter. Their operations were only within the system, a preference of Quell's.[4]

At one point, they had a disagreement with a flower seller, who threatened to return with his men. Quell and Chadic were confident that they were right and that the man would not follow through. However, they were proven wrong on the second count when three Chevin brothers confronted them at their house. Luckily for them, they were able to turn the Chevin onto their side, with Chadic lying about being affiliated with the Church of the Nine Ways in the process. The five of them confronted the flower seller in the end, who became apologetic. Eventually, Quell and Chadic became a couple. Chadic also had trouble with the port security customs the city near their house, coming to liken the staff to human-supremacists.[4]

Reunions

In 11 BBY,[8] Senator Wyl Lark, another who had served with Quell and Chadic in the war, was visiting the location Perithal while the latter two were on Spirana, which served as an opportunity for the senator to visit his old friends. Lark went to Quell and Chadic's house, where the had a catch up and exchanged updates on each other's lives over a drink. They went on to speak about those they had served with in the war, remembering many fallen. The conversation turned to a drunk Chadic's complaints about the nearby city's customs before she agreed to go to bed.[4]

After Chadic went to bed, Quell and Lark spoke before the former drove the senator to the city port. Before he left, Lark gave Quell an offer to speak with a survivor of a genocide that the latter had been a part of before they had defected from the Empire to the New Republic. Quell ultimately agreed before Lark left and returned to her and Chadic's house. She decided to go flying in her Helotek Loadhauler later that night.[4]

Inhabitants

Yrica Quell and Chass na Chadic had a house connected to a cargo office near a city on Spirana. The city had its own port with a security office. The Santrapei was also a location that was about 300 kilometers east of Quell and Chadic's house, where Quell's brother Thren lived.[4]

Behind the scenes

Spirana was introduced into the current Star Wars canon when it was depicted on a map included in the fifty-second issue of De Agostini's magazine series Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon,[9] published around December 30, 2015.[10] It first appeared in the 2021 novel Victory's Price: An Alphabet Squadron Novel, the final volume of Alexander Freed's Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy.[4]

  6. Victory's Price: An Alphabet Squadron Novel establishes that Yrica Quell moved to Spirana between the Battle of Jakku and Chass na Chadic visiting her house eleven months later. Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know establishes that a standard year was 365 days long, while the sixty-first issue of Star Wars: Build the Millenium Falcon sets the length of a standard month at thirty-five days, with eleven months therefore being equal to approximately a year. Since Star Wars: Timelines dates the Battle of Jakku to 5 ABY, Quell must have therefore moved to Spirana between then and around 6 ABY.

  8. The final section of Victory's Price: An Alphabet Squadron Novel is set six years after the Battle of Jakku, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 5 ABY. The section must have therefore taken place in 11 BBY.
