Sidon Ithano's helmet[3] was an ancient[7] and traditional[8] helmet[9] and mask sourced from[3] the reptilian[10] Kaleesh species.[3] The mask represented the trickster god Ithano.[5] The helmet was red and created from plasteel[3] and Ionnite.[5] It was worn by the Delphidian pirate captain Sidon Ithano during the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance.[2]
Despite his past connection with the species,[3] Ithano took the mask from the Kaleesh.[11] He used it to conceal his Delphidian ancestry as well as to further heighten the sense of mystery that surrounded him.[1] Since red was the most prevalent color of blood in the galaxy,[1] Ithano painted his helmet[12] and used it as the color for much of his clothing to convey a sense of glory, garnering him the nicknames the Crimson Corsair, Blood Buccaneer, or the Red Raider.[1] No one ever forgets him[3] constantly wearing his red Kaleesh mask.[12]
As with all[1] large[13] Kaleesh helmets, long, lateral slits dominated the mask,[1] with flaring ears.[13] In a particular light, Ithano's dark, strongly striated skin and deep-set eyes could be seen, albeit few ever went close enough and lived to tell the tale.[1] His modified[5] Kaleesh helmet was equipped with breathing filters and a vocalizer that boosted his voice. However, as Ithano hardly spoke, that raspy, mechanical voice was rarely heard.[1] His helmet protected him from the vacuum of space.[5]
