The Sher Kars were the predominant ruling species on Mustafar.
Characteristics
A battle against a Sher Kar
They were huge, scorpion-like beasts which mostly inhabited the deepest part of the Tulrus Nesting Grounds, as the Tulrus was the Sher Kar's prey of choice. Malfosa was the most famous Sher Kar, and had killed many people before being killed on the Burning Plains. There were three types of Sher Kar on Mustafar.
Behind the scenes
The Sher Kar was first mentioned in "Galactic Biological Survey Project – Mustafar," an article posted on the website for the massively multiplayer online role-playing games Star Wars Galaxies on September 14, 2005 as part of the pre-release material for the game's Trials of Obi-Wan expansion.[1] The creatures then appeared for the first time in the expansion itself[2] when it was released on November 1, 2005.[3]
The Sher Kar resembled a creature from Episode III concept art.
The Sher Kar's appearance[2] matches that of a creature depicted in "Mustafar Monster," a piece of concept art created by concept artist Sang Jun Lee for the[4] 2003 prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The piece was unused in the final film[5] and depicted the monster battling two lightsaber-wielding characters in a volcanic environment on Mustafar, one with a blue blade and one with a red blade.[4]
