The Sher Kar was the apex predator of its homeworld, the volcanic Outer Rim planet Mustafar. Large and scorpion-like, they possessed six segmented limbs with feet with at least four toes. A Sher Kar's tail was also segmented and far longer than the rest of its body, ending in two black prongs. The creatures' skin was brown in color and scaly, with spikes around the joints on their limbs. The head of a Sher Kar consisted of a large, toothy maw with a large pink tongue inside.[1]
The favored prey of the Sher Kar was the large, egg-laying tulrus, and the predators could often be found deep in their nesting grounds. They were also dangerous to humans and on one occasion a Sher Kar fought two humanoid individuals, one armed with a blaster and the other wielding a lightsaber.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Sher Kar were mentioned in "Wildlife of Mustafar," an article in the "Guide to the Galaxy" department of the thirty-third issue of De Agostini's Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine,[1] which was written by Mark Newbold[2] and released around August 19, 2015.[3]
Sher Kar originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in "Galactic Biological Survey Project – Mustafar," an article posted on the website for the massively multiplayer online role-playing games Star Wars Galaxies on September 14, 2005 as part of the pre-release material for the game's Trials of Obi-Wan expansion.[4] The creatures then appeared for the first time in the expansion itself[5] when it was released on November 1, 2005.[6]
The Sher Kar resembled a creature from Episode III concept art.
The Sher Kar's appearance[1] matches that of a creature depicted in "Mustafar Monster," a piece of concept art created by concept artist Sang Jun Lee for the[7] 2003 prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The piece was unused in the final film[8] and depicted the monster battling two lightsaber-wielding characters in a volcanic environment on Mustafar, one with a blue blade and one with a red blade.[7]
