For other uses, see Rox.

"Rox settles supplies and takes care of our mundane needs."
―Marda Ro, in her journal[1]

Rox was a large Ozrelanso member of the Path of the Open Hand cult. He was preaching the Path's teachings on the Galactic Frontier during its fall in 382 BBY and was unaware of the event as a result. At some point between the Path's end and around 381 BBY, he was among the Path members tracked down by the pirate leader and former Path member Marda Ro and was one of the few to join her group.

After Rox joined, Ro introduced him to a monster known as the Great Leveler. Around 379 BBY, he assisted Ro in feeding the Leveler a Jedi that she had captured. Later, Ro mentioned him in a message she recorded for her descendants, to which her great-great-grandson had listened by 252 BBY.

Path of the Open Hand and joining Marda Ro

"I took the ones who stayed into the bowels of the Gaze and introduced them to the Great Leveler."

Marda Ro, who recruited Rox into her pirate group

Rox was an Ozrelanso who became a member of the Path of the Open Hand cult[1] at some point no later than 382 BBY.[2] He went out into the Galactic Frontier to preach the Path's teachings and, as a consequence, was away from[1] the Path's home planet[3] Dalna for the Path's end[1] during the Night of Sorrow.[3] Unaware of the Path's collapse, he continued operating in the Path's name.[1]

At some point between the Path's fall and 381 BBY,[4] Rox was among the few scattered Path members tracked down by Marda Ro—a former member of the Path and a pirate leader.[1] She[5] told Rox a lie about how the Path ended in order to put herself at the center of his faith and desires and told him to either join her band of pirates[1]—who would eventually become the Nihil[6]—or cease any Path activity. Rox was among the few who chose to join her.[1]

After joining her, Ro took Rox to her ship, the Gaze Electric. She revealed a Force-consuming beast called the Great Leveler to him and explained that the group's objective was to keep the Leveler safe so that, in the future, it could return to destroy the abusers of the Force. Ro also added that the group had no religion to share or a story to tell the galaxy, as only surviving was important. Unlike most of the others serving Ro, Rox did not go out raiding and instead stayed on the Gaze Electric. He took care of ordinary needs of the group, such as cooking or securing supplies.[1]

Death of a Jedi

"Is it dead?"
"No, but soon he'll wish I'd killed him planetside."
―Rox and Marda Ro, discussing the Jedi after Ro brought him to the Gaze Electric[1]

Around 379 BBY,[7] Rox was aboard the Gaze when Ro returned to the ship from an astronomical object with a severely injured Jedi she had assaulted. As instructed by Ro, after she landed with a shuttle, Rox entered it accompanied by Alirya and Milan Stor—other individuals who served Ro—and the three noticed the Jedi's body and stared at it. Ro explained that the Jedi was still alive but would soon regret it.[1]

Rox and Stor dragged the Jedi to the Great Leveler, and Rox dropped him next to the containment shield that held the creature. Ro deactivated the shield and the Leveler attacked the Jedi, consuming him. For a moment, Rox watched as it turned him into a stony husk, but he eventually turned away and did not observe the whole process. Afterward, Ro ushered the Leveler back into the room in which it was caged and strode away.[1]

Legacy

"It is important to say their names to you. They will be dead, but they came before you. It matters to know who spins around, who is buffeted against the edges of our—our—"
―Marda Ro, in her journal[1]

Ro later talked about Rox in a journal she recorded for her descendants and stressed the importance of passing on his name.[1] By 252 BBY,[8] during his youth, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to her recordings, including the messages where Rox was mentioned.[5]

Personality and traits

"Rox and Alirya stay with me on the Gaze."
―Marda Ro, in her journal[1]

Ro considered Rox large. Unlike other beings serving Ro, he did not participate in pirate activity, instead having more mundane responsibilities, such as cooking or taking care of supplies.[1]

Skills and abilities

"Rox, a huge Ozrelanso who cooks for us."
―Marda Ro, in her journal[1]

Rox had experience with cooking.[1]
