The Rata Nebula was located in Chiss Space of the Unknown Regions in grid square E-9 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Rata Nebula was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in "Star Systems of the Galaxy," an appendix published with the Star Wars Galaxy Map on StarWars.com[1] on June 24, 2025. Both works were authored by Jason Fry.[2] The nebula was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity via the short story "Red Sky, Blue Flame," which was written by Elaine Cunningham and published in the seventh issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine[3] on October 16, 2001.[4] Marc Sasso depicted the nebula in an illustration included with the story.[3]
