Rey's Lightsaber On The Loose

"Rey's Lightsaber On The Loose," also titled "R2-D2, BB-8 and Rey's Lightsaber on the Loose!," is the third episode of the web series Star Wars: Droid Diaries. The episode was released on September 18, 2025 on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel.^[1]

Official description

BB-8 wants to borrow Rey's Lightsaber when she accidentally leaves it behind–R2-D2 tries to keep it safe and away from BB-8 but he ends up setting it off inside the Millennium Falcon instead! With the Lightsaber slashing through the ship, will they survive and get it back to Rey?^[1]

Plot summary

Rey is fixing her speeder bike while R2-D2 rolls down the gangplank of the Millennium Falcon. Meanwhile, BB-8 uses his electric saw appendage to cut through a rod. Due to the slow progress of his electric saw, he wishes that he could borrow Rey's lightsaber. As Rey prepares to set off, she accidentally drops her lightsaber from her holster. R2-D2 attempts to return it to her, but Rey is already departing on her speeder bike.

BB-8 asks R2-D2 if he could borrow Rey's lightsaber, but R2-D2 says that it belongs to Rey and takes it aboard the Millennium Falcon for safekeeping. He leaves it on the hologame table. BB-8 sneaks into the living area and attempts to snatch the lightsaber, but he is quickly caught by R2-D2. R2-D2 attempts to stow the lightsaber on a high shelf out of BB-8's reach, but the droid accidentally activates the blade, causing it to cut through a hole in the ceiling of ship's inner hull.

A chunk of ceiling crashes down, exposing a hose of flammable gas which sets fire to Rey's cloak. R2-D2 extinguishes the fire with foam. BB-8 then rushes to grab the lightsaber but slips on the foam. He crashes into the wall near the shelf, causing the ignited lightsaber to teeter and fall. The hilt bounces off of R2-D2's domed head before catching on an elastic cord. Like a slingshot, the lightsaber launches toward the two terrified droids, the blade pointed right at them. Just before it can strike the droids, however, Rey returns and uses the Force to suspend the lightsaber in a mid-air. Seeing the mess, she shakes her head with disapproval.
