Pyre's armor was a customized set of First Order stormtrooper armor for Commander Pyre within the First Order. The armor was customized to allow more flexibility and coated with an electrum finish for a gold gleam. Pyre used the armor in 34 ABY.

Description

"Yeah, but our gold friend Pyre is here too."
―Kazuda Xiono describing Pyre by his armor[2]
Pyre's armor shared its electrum finish with his blaster, which was keyed to only function with his gloves.

Commander Pyre's armor was a customized version of the standard First Order stormtrooper armor, with a black pauldron on his right shoulder to denote his rank. The armor had an electrum finish that gave it a reflective gold shine. Underneath the armor, Pyre wore a black body glove. The armor was customized to be more flexible, particularly in the boots, and sacrificed protection in the lower torso and upper arm areas. His blaster was keyed to function only with his gloves and featured an electrum finish to match his armor.[1] The armor made Pyre an unmistakable figure.[3]

Service on the Colossus

"I said, drop your weapons, now."
"Maybe we don't feel like it, Goldie. Why don't you drop your weapons?"
"Look around you. There is no escape."

In 34 ABY,[5] Pyre wore his armor during his visits to the Colossus refueling station on[6] the planet[1] Castilon. The commander wore the armor while hunting down the Teharan orphans Eila and Kel,[6] to remove evidence of the First Order's Attack on Tehar.[7] Pyre wore his armor on several occasions when meeting with the Captain of the Colossus, Imanuel Doza, both via hologram[8] and in person.[9] He also wore the armor while communicating with Kragan Gorr, leader of the Warbird pirates.[10]

The commander continued donning the armor while overseeing the First Order's occupation of the Colossus.[11] During which, he wore the armor while arresting[12] the mechanic Jarek Yeager and his workers—Tamara Ryvora, Neeku Vozo, and Kazuda Xiono—after Yeager's starfighter, the Fireball, was seen in First Order territory. The accusation resulted in a blaster fight between Pyre's troops and the mechanics, ending with only Ryvora's arrest as the others escaped.[13] Later that day, Pyre oversaw the arrival of Agent Tierny of the First Order Security Bureau to the platform in his armor. Then, when Xiono and Yeager disabled the First Order's communications blanket, Pyre wore his armor to investigate the issue. He encountered the two mechanics, actually Resistance associates, resulting in another blaster fight that resulted in the capture of Yeager.[13]

When Doza confronted Pyre over Yeager's imprisonment, Pyre was still wearing his armor when[14] Doza's loyal droid assistant[15] 4D-M1N entered sentry mode and threatened the commander. He incapacitated the hostile droid before[14] she[1] could harm him or his armor.[14] After failing to take full control of the station, due to interference from Xiono, Pyre in his armor and Tierny escorted Ryvora to a shuttle to take her off-world. They were interrupted by Xiono and Yeager, with the former referring to Pyre as "Goldie" in an exchange of threats before the ordeal turned to blaster fire. Pyre survived unscathed, escaping with Tierny and Ryvora aboard the shuttle.[4]

Behind the scenes

"Aside from Phasma, we also have the character Pyre, who is her sort of second-in-command. He needed to look unique as well, and we didn't want to stick with a silver theme, so I think it was fun that we brought in the gold. It makes him really distinct from her and the rest of the troopers."

Pyre's armor first appeared in "The Children from Tehar,"[6] the sixth episode of the first season of the Star Wars Resistance animated television series, which premiered on November 4, 2018.[17] The armor was first previewed earlier in the year on August 17 in the series's first trailer, which was posted on StarWars.com and the official Disney YouTube channel.[18] The armor was first identified as "Pyre's dark armor" in the Star Wars Resistance toy line from Hasbro,[19] which released on January 15, 2019.[20] October 4 of that year,[21] the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition identified the armor as "Pyre's armor."[22]

Concept art of Pyre's armor by Amy Beth Christenson

Lucasfilm Animation artist Amy Beth Christenson completed concept art titled "pyreA" for Pyre and his armor on February 28, 2017. The armor's model was sourced from the model "foTrooperA" with changes to scale, but the details on the gauntlet were sourced from the model "PhasmaA." The armor was designed to have a similar material to "PhasmaA," but purposefully less shine. While his helmet's interior was designed, the helmet was not meant to be removed.[23]
