A proton cannon mounted on a Rogue-class starfighter
- "You must not allow the clones to reach the surface."
"Our new proton cannon are in the optimum position to prevent that, sir." - ―Emir Wat Tambor and TX-20
Proton cannons were a type of heavy weapon emplacement used by both the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars.
Characteristics
A Separatist mobile J-1 proton canon
Proton cannons were a type of powerful energy weapon. One model was the Separatist J-1 proton cannon, a type of droid anti-aircraft cannon; a handful of these cannons were capable of taking down an Acclamator-class assault ship.[1] Smaller craft were also capable of mounting proton cannons; Rogue-class starfighters could be equipped with proton cannons.[2]
History
A gang of Pakiphantos outfitted their Z-95 Headhunters with proton cannons. Despite the small size of the Headhunters, their proton cannons were capable of piercing the heavy capital-class armor enhancements on the larger Millennium Falcon.[3]
