A power fence was a type of specialized shield emitter designed to provide perimeter protection for installations. Once activated, it produced crackling walls of solid, translucent blue-white energy that prevented objects and energy beams from passing through. It was powered by a power fence generator and its energy walls were produced by durasteel amplifier pylons. Power fences were typically placed in front of alloy or plascrete gates, vehicle obstacles, and weapon emplacements. They were used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War between them.[1]

Behind the scenes

Power fences were first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Fully Operational,[1] a 2018 sourcebook for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game published by Fantasy Flight Games.[2] They originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in The Star Wars Sourcebook, a 1987 sourcebook for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, written by Bill Slavicsek and Curtis Smith.[3]
