- "The top image is the sample taken from the husked remains of Pola Sheel, a Jedi Knight who died on Meridaus after an encounter with a Nihil hunter and their pack of Nameless."
- ―Reath Silas, to Amadeo Azzazzo
Pola Sheel was a Force-sensitive individual who served as a Jedi Knight of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era. Between 229 BBY and 228 BBY, Sheel encountered a member of the Nihil marauders' Jedi-hunting Children of the Storm group and their pack of Force-consuming Nameless creatures on the astronomical object Meridaus. Due to the Nameless' effects, Sheel was killed during the encounter and transformed into a husk.
The Jedi's remains were eventually recovered and brought to the Jedi Temple on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant where Jedi Knight Reath Silas was researching the Nameless. In 228 BBY, Silas, working alongside Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo, examined a sample taken from Sheel's husked remains in a protonscope in his laboratory which they compared to a sample of the plague known as the blight that also husked its victims. The two Jedi concluded that the effects of the Nameless and blight were identical, with Silas later informing the Jedi High Council of what they had learned.
Biography
- "Samples taken from the remains of husked Jedi, when compared to the blight-infected severed hand of Cair San Tekka, show that on a molecular level, the effect of the Nameless on a Jedi is identical to the effect of the blight on organic matter. At least in the small samples I've been able to obtain. Realistically, I need more data so I can dig deeper. Nothing about this is clear. The blight seems to affect everyone and everything it comes into contact with. The Nameless don't. I need time, and I need more samples."
- ―Reath Silas, during a meeting of the Jedi High Council
Pola Sheel was a Force-sensitive individual who served as a Jedi Knight of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era.[2] Between 229 BBY and 228 BBY,[1] Sheel was present on the astronomical object Meridaus where they encountered a Child of the Storm—a member of the Nihil marauders' Jedi-hunting Children of the Storm group—and their pack of Force-consuming Nameless creatures. The incident resulted in Sheel's death, having been turned into a husk due to the effects of the Nameless. At some point after, the Jedi Knight's remains were recovered and brought to the Jedi Temple on[2] the Core Worlds planet[3] Coruscant where Jedi Knight Reath Silas was researching the Nameless in a laboratory.[2]
Reath Silas (left) and Amadeo Azzazzo (right) compared a sample from Pola Sheel's husked remains with a sample of the blight.
In 228 BBY,[1] Silas was also attempting to learn if there was a connection between the effects of the Nameless and the blight—a plague that also husked its victims—and began working with Jedi Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo. At one point, the two were in Silas' lab, and the Jedi Knight ran diagnostic tests using recovered matter from sites where Jedi—including Sheel—had been killed by the Nameless, which he then compared to material the blight left behind, a sample from the hand of[2] the San Tekka clan member[4] Cair San Tekka. After Silas looked at images projected by a protonscope of Sheel's remains and of the sample from San Tekka's hand, he showed it to Azzazzo and told him to look at the difference between the two specimens.[2]
As Azzazzo studied the two images, Silas informed him that the top image he was looking at showed husked remains that had belonged to Sheel, and told the Padawan of their passing as a result of their encounter with the Child of the Storm and their Nameless pack. Azzazzo, however, could not spot a difference between the two, with Silas also concluding that the effects of the Nameless and blight were exactly the same. The Jedi Knight reported their discovery during a meeting of the Jedi High Council, and a mission to capture a Nameless so more samples could be obtained was approved.[2]
Powers and abilities
Pola Sheel was trained to wield the Force.[2]
Behind the scenes
Pola Sheel was mentioned in the 2024 young-adult novel The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless, written by George Mann and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[2] Phase III.[5]

Notes and references
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 4 establishes that Boolan was recruited into the Nihil five months after the Destruction of Starlight Beacon, which per The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1 and Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia corresponds to 229 BBY.
Inside Star Wars: The High Republic: The Nameless Strike Back in Phase III on StarWars.com (backup link) states that the Children of the Storm were created by Boolan after he joined the Nihil, therefore meaning they were founded no earlier that that year. As The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless–the events of which take place in 228 BBY per the reasoning here–establishes that the Children of the Storm exist during its events, the creation of the Children of the Storm must have occurred between those two years. Tears of the Nameless states that Pola Sheel was killed on Meridaus before its events by a Child of the Storm, therefore meaning their passing took place between 229 BBY and 228 BBY.
