- "Tiny piranha beetles flit across Yavin 4, scouting for food sources while seeking to evade the silent approach of whisper birds."
- ―From the journal of Ardis San Tekka
Piranha beetles were a species of beetle native to the moon Yavin 4. The beetles harassed runyips while the other species foraged on the floor of the moon's forests.[2]
Biology and appearance
Piranha beetles had four wings, four black eyes, and four facial feelers that they used to detect vibrations in the air. They fed on tiny mites that lived on runyips' skin.[1]
Behind the scenes
Piranha beetles first appeared in Champions of the Force, a Star Wars Legends novel written by Kevin J. Anderson and released in 1994. The species was confirmed to be canon by the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, which was released in 2015.
