Behind the scenes

Pipyyrians first appeared in The High Republic: Cataclysm, a novel written by Lydia Kang and published in 2023 as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's^[1] Phase II. The species was created by Kang in the image of her shih tzu-poodle mix Piper, who she had named the Pipyyrians' homeworld after.^[2]
