"Ah, Agent P, our sources tell us that the R2 unit is safely in the possession of Obi-Wan Kenobi. You always come through for us. Great work! Now, take a well-deserved rest."
―Major Hologram, to Perry[1]

Perry, also known as Perry the Rebel-pus, Perry the Platypus, or simply Agent P, was a Platypus agent for the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Imperial Era. He disguised himself as a pet of the Flynn-Fletcher family until Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher found out about his real identity, and Perry left the family.

Sometime by 0 BBY, Perry infiltrated the Galactic Empire's Death Star superweapon to rescue rebel agents that had been captured. That year, Perry stole the plans for the Death Star and delivered them to Princess Leia Organa of the Rebel Alliance. However, the Empire captured her ship, the Tantive IV, leading her to put the plans in the droid R2-D2 and assign Perry to escort him to Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi on the planet Tatooine. Despite being accidentally separated from the droid, Perry followed him to Tatooine and helped ensure that the droid reached Kenobi.

With his mission complete, the Rebel Alliance's Major Hologram sent Perry to the Death Star to stop Imperial scientist Heinz Darthenshmirtz from creating and using his Sith-inator machine. After Perry reunited with his former caregivers Flynn and Fletcher on the space station, Darthenshmirtz captured Perry and froze him in carbonite. When Perry was accidentally freed, he and Darthenshmirtz fought a hand-to-hand duel throughout the Death Star, ending with the scientist being frozen in carbonite himself. Perry left with Darthenshmirtz in his custody after Flynn destroyed the Sith-inator, though Darthenshmirtz later escaped his carbonite block and Perry's custody.

Biography

Early missions

"He used to be our pet until we found out he was secretly an agent for the Rebellion. We felt a little betrayed and hurt at first, but bygones be bygones!"
―Phineas Flynn, about his former pet Perry[1]

Perry was a Platypus who disguised himself as a house pet of the Flynn-Fletcher family while working as an agent for[1] the Alliance to Restore the Republic, an organization devoted to taking down the Galactic Empire.[2] At some point, his caregivers, the stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher, discovered his true identity and felt betrayed and hurt. Perry then left the family and continued doing missions solely for the Rebellion, and Flynn and Fletcher eventually forgave him and moved on from their resentment.[1]

Sometime by 0 BBY,[3] Major Hologram of the Rebel Alliance sent Perry to the Empire's Death Star battle station to rescue captured agents of the Rebellion who were frozen in carbonite. Despite the space station being heavily guarded by Normtrooper droids, Perry successfully rescued a bear-like agent, a dog-like agent, and a turtle-like agent and defeated[4] the Imperial scientist[1] Heinz Darthenshmirtz's Normtrooper-inator, which was equipped with an Anti-Magnet-Antennae that prevented Perry from using his wrist magnet.[4]

Later, while still on the Death Star, Perry was tasked by Major Hologram to uncover a new device created by Darthenshmirtz. After Perry saved more rebel agents frozen in carbonite, including another dog-like agent, a chicken-like agent, and a mouse-like agent, he confronted Darthenshmirtz and again defeated the Normtrooper-inator. Darthenshmirtz retreated and revealed that he was working on a device called a Sith-inator, confident that Perry could not stop it. Ordered by Hologram to stop Darthenshmirtz from completing the device, Perry freed a duck-like agent, a frog-like agent, and a cat-like agent from carbonite and once again confronted Darthenshmirtz, who had reworked his Normtrooper-inator into the Super Normtrooper V3.0 and attacked Perry with it. When Perry destroyed Darthenshmirtz's invention for a final time, successfully stalling Darthenshmirtz's development of the Sith-inator, the scientist insisted he would defeat Perry in the future.[4]

Death Star plans heist

"We received your transmissions. So, you have the Death Star plans? Agent P, you never cease to…"
―Leia Organa to Perry, before being interrupted[1]

In 0 BBY,[3] after learning the Death Star plans were located on the modified Star Destroyer Empire Administration Offices, the Rebel Alliance decided to send Perry, their best Platypus agent, to retrieve them in the hopes of finding a weakness in the battle station. Perry successfully infiltrated the Star Destroyer without being spotted by Office Stormtroopers and reached a room guarded by a ray shield, which he deactivated with a small electric device. He then removed a disc labeled as the Death Star plans from its container in the room, inadvertently triggering an alarm.[1]

Perry dove through a closing blast door at the entrance of the room before it shut completely, but he was only briefly able to avoid detection before being spotted by stormtroopers, who fired their blasters at him. To escape, Perry jumped onto a stormtrooper's head and launched himself into a vent, barely avoiding several blaster bolts that penetrated the vent as he ran through it. He then jumped out of a hole in the side of the ship into his parked shuttle. The Empire Administration Offices chased him as he flew away but were unable to reach him before he launched his ship into hyperspace.[1]

Soon after, Perry exited hyperspace above[1] the Outer Rim Territories planet[2] Tatooine near[1] the corvette Tantive IV[2] and docked with the ship. Onboard, he met with Princess[1] Leia Organa of the Core Worlds planet Alderaan, one of the leaders of the Rebel Alliance,[2] who told him that they had received his transmissions and asked for the plans. After handing them to her, she thanked him and began to compliment him before the Tantive IV shook violently. A rebel agent entered and informed Organa that an Imperial Star Destroyer had tracked their position and was firing on their ship.[1]

Escorting droids

"Agent P, I need you to make sure this R2 unit goes to Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. But first, I need to record a video message. Uh, be a dear and stand over by the bulkhead. You're kind of in my shot."
―Leia Organa, to Perry[1]

Later, Perry and Organa avoided being spotted by the Empire in a hallway of the Tantive IV. After placing the Death Star plans in the astromech droid R2-D2, Organa asked Perry to escort the droid to[1] Jedi Master[2] Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. She added that she first needed to record a message and asked Perry to move by a bulkhead so he would not be in her shot. When Organa left, Perry and R2-D2, along with the protocol droid C-3PO, headed over to the ship's escape pods. Before they could board one, the stormtrooper Buford accidentally fired a blaster while gesturing, forcing Perry to dodge the shot by rolling away. This caused him to be separated from the droids, who entered the escape pod and ejected it before Perry could board. He then stowed away in another escape pod the stormtroopers Buford, Baljeet, and Candace were taking to pursue the droids. Once the pod landed on Tatooine, Perry waited for the three stormtroopers to exit and then tracked R2-D2 by following the tracks the droid left in the sand.[1]

Perry followed R2-D2 to a sandcrawler operated by Jawas and climbed onto it after he saw them take the astromech aboard. Eventually, the sandcrawler stopped at[1] the Lars homestead[2] with Perry still on it. Perry jumped off the sandcrawler and watched while hiding behind its tread as[1] the moisture farmer Owen Lars[2] bought C-3PO and[1] the astromech droid R5-D4,[2] telling his nephew Luke Skywalker to bring them inside their garage. Perry then spotted R2-D2 with the Jawas and started to approach the droid just as R5-D4 blew out[1] his[2] motivator and Lars asked to replace the malfunctioned astromech with R2-D2 instead, surprising Perry. As Skywalker brought R2-D2 and C-3PO along to the homestead, Perry went back behind the sandcrawler.[1]

Eventually, when Tatooine's twin suns were setting, Perry ran toward the homestead's garage. Once C-3PO was distracted by taking an oil bath, Perry stood in the doorway and threw a rock at R2-D2 to get his attention before gesturing for the droid to follow him. Perry pushed R2 out of the homestead as Skywalker stared out into the sunset, sneaking behind him. While pushing R2 along a narrow ledge, Perry and R2 were hit by a landspeeder driven by the Flynn-Fletcher stepbrothers, his former caregivers. R2 landed in the speeder, but Perry was pushed off the ledge.[1]

A new mission

"So you're probably on a mission right now, huh?"
[Perry gives a thumbs-up]
"Hey! So are we! Oh, uh, this is our pilot, Isabella. So, uh, good luck."
―Phineas Flynn, to Perry[1]

Perry caught himself on the cliff face as he fell and climbed back up, but he was hit by the stepbrothers and their speeder again. This time, he was knocked all the way down the cliff, directly onto a cake sitting in front of a Tusken Raider youngling who was surrounded by a group of other Tuskens. The youngling screamed in anger, prompting the other Tuskens to swarm Perry, which scared him. The next morning, Perry baked a new cake, replacing the one he destroyed, and presented it to the Tusken youngling and the rest of the group, who all cheered with excitement.[1]

Perry's wrist holoprojector then beeped, indicating a new transmission from Major Hologram, who congratulated the Platypus on delivering R2-D2 to Kenobi. After Perry just smiled awkwardly, knowing that he did not deliver the astromech, Hologram told Perry that he deserved a rest and ended the communication. Perry rested for about a second but was then quickly interrupted by another transmission from Hologram, who had Perry's next mission. Hologram told Perry that he needed to get to the Death Star immediately because Darthenshmirtz was working on a new device, needing Perry to stop the scientist before he could finish building it. Immediately after the transmission ended, Perry's face fell with annoyance.[1]

Soon after, Perry arrived on the Death Star and went to the Death Star Directory to navigate, where he came across Flynn and Fletcher. Perry ran toward the two brothers, who picked him up into a hug and introduced him to the pilot Isabella. Flynn explained the brothers' past relationship with Perry to her and how their discovery of Perry's true identity had affected them and that they had moved on. Acknowledging that they were both on missions, Flynn wished Perry good luck and Perry said goodbye by shaking the brothers' hands. Once he was gone, Flynn commented that Perry looked good.[1]

Confrontation and capture

"So, like I said, I'm going to make myself super evil with my Sith-inator here. But first, I'm gonna shoot you just to make sure it's safe and, you know, I don't die or fry myself and have to wear one of those masks like Vader […] Plus, if it works, you can join me on the dark side. We can be Sith buddies!"
―Darthenshmirtz, to Perry[1]

Perry eventually reached and opened the door to an abandoned recycling compartment that Darthenshmirtz utilized as a lair and was greeted by the scientist. However, the blast door did not open all the way, confusing a determined Perry, so Darthenshmirtz explained that it was broken. Perry then stood with a stern expression on a hatch in the floor that Darthenshmirtz had painted a giant red letter 'X' on, knowing Perry would likely stand on it. The scientist quickly opened the hatch, causing Perry to fall into a carbon-freezing chamber and get frozen in a block of carbonite. Darthenshmirtz's protocol droid Norm-3PO then picked up the carbonite block Perry was frozen in and hung it on a closed door in the lair, considering it similar to art.[1]

Darthenshmirtz told the frozen Platypus why he created the Sith-inator by performing a musical number alongside a group of dancers. In the performance, he explained that he was weak in the Force due to his low midi-chlorian count and also generally treated like an outsider. He planned to use the Sith-inator on himself, which would vastly increase his strength in the dark side of the Force, hoping that his new abilities would earn him notoriety and status in the Empire and make him a true member of the Sith. After his performance, the scientist resumed speaking directly to Perry and explained that he was going to test the device on the Platypus to ensure its safety, suggesting Perry could join him on the dark side of the Force if it worked.[1]

Darthenshmirtz activated the machine, but Fletcher, who had sensed in the Force that Perry was in trouble, arrived at the last second and knocked Perry off of the wall before the machine's beam could hit him. Consequently, the beam hit Fletcher and transformed him into a Sith. Before leaving to get fuel for the Sith-inator, Darthenshmirtz told Perry to stay there and that he would be back to turn Perry into a Sith as well, suggesting that he, Fletcher, and Perry could be the "Three Sith-keteers."[1]

Fighting back

"Hey! Get away from that! Perry the Rebel-pus, you stay away from my inator."
―Darthenshmirtz to Perry, on the Sith-inator[1]

Perry escapes his carbonite case.

Perry's carbonite block was damaged when it was thrown off the wall, so it eventually deactivated and Perry was released from it. When Darthenshmirtz and Norm-3PO returned, Perry jumped out from behind a box and shot Norm-3PO with a mist that electrocuted and immobilized the droid. The Platypus quickly ran to the Sith-inator, removed a panel, and started messing with it until Darthenshmirtz noticed him and told him to stay away from the machine. The two then engaged in hand-to-hand combat and Perry threw Darthenshmirtz out of the recycling compartment.[1]

Perry pushed Darthenshmirtz through a wall into the Imperial Credit Union. Darthenshmirtz taunted him by telling him to try it again, so Perry kicked him through a wall again. In a hallway, Darthenshmirtz threw Perry off of him and threatened him by saying he was going to use a lightsaber. Perry was initially concerned until Darthenshmirtz realized that the Platypus only had a flashlight on him and started to flee, eventually running over a bridge across a large shaft and retracting it before Perry could cross. As the scientist taunted him, Perry pulled out a grappling hook rope and threw it across so that it would attach to Darthenshmirtz's belt, pulling them both off the edge. As they fell, the rope caught onto another bridge and left them swinging, so Perry kicked Darthenshmirtz through the wall of the shaft and jumped through the hole into another hallway.[1]

Mission success

"Ah, Agent P! With you stopping Darthenshmirtz and the Rebellion destroying the Death Star, this day will be long remembered."
―Major Hologram, to Perry[1]

Perry and Darthenshmirtz eventually fell through the ceiling of the recycling compartment, where the scientist tried to get away from Perry but fell into the carbon-freezing chamber and became frozen in carbonite. The Platypus then noticed Flynn being knocked to the ground by Fletcher, who had turned into a Sith warrior called Darth Ferb. Shocked, Perry ran over to help Flynn, but Darth Ferb picked up Perry with the Force and threw him into a pile of garbage. After Flynn destroyed the Sith-inator and Fletcher returned to normal, Perry helped look for Fletcher in the wreckage until Flynn found his stepbrother.[1]

As Perry pushed a carbon-frozen Darthenshmirtz out of the recycling compartment, Flynn said goodbye to Perry and told the Platypus not to be a stranger, with Perry waving back. The Platypus left the Death Star shortly before it exploded, with Darthenshmirtz in his custody aboard his ship. Major Hologram contacted Perry to commend him, but he also warned that there could have been copies of the Death Star plans elsewhere, concerning Perry. Noticing a gray liquid on the ship's floor behind him, Perry followed it and discovered that Darthenshmirtz had escaped the carbonite block. The scientist tauntingly said goodbye to Perry before jumping in and ejecting an escape pod. Shortly after, Perry attended[1] the Royal Award Ceremony[2] and an afterparty at[1] the Rebellion's Great Temple on the moon Yavin 4,[2] where he danced with Organa.[1]

Personality and traits

Perry communicated with hand gestures and chattering sounds.

Perry communicated with hand gestures and chattering sounds.

Perry was a Platypus with teal fur, brown eyes, an orange bill, and a flat orange tail. He communicated by making chattering sounds, hand gestures, and nods. He was a disciplined and focused agent, working tirelessly against the Galactic Empire, but he was annoyed by not having breaks in between missions. He was courageous and took on several dangerous missions without pause. Perry had a good and honorable reputation, as both Major Hologram and Princess Leia Organa of the Rebel Alliance believed they could always count on him.[1]

Despite his serious façade, Perry cared deeply for and showed affection to his former caregivers, Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher. When he reunited with them on the Death Star, he immediately ran to hug them after seeing them and allowed them to pick him up. He was deeply concerned to see Flynn in danger and attempted to rescue Flynn from Darth Ferb, though Perry's effort was useless against the Sith.[1]

Skills and abilities

"I would like to see you try that again."
―Heinz Darthenshmirtz, as he fought Perry[1]

Perry was a skilled combatant, able to fight well in hand-to-hand combat and handle a variety of weaponry. His intelligence allowed him to stop a few of Darthenshmirtz's evil schemes. He was a capable pilot and was able to evade an Imperial Star Destroyer while flying a shuttle. Perry was skilled at espionage and staying out of sight while performing infiltrations, doing so successfully on multiple occasions. This was largely due to his small size, which Perry also took advantage of to fit in vents and other small spaces. His agility also made it hard for bigger enemies to hit him, and his considerable strength allowed him to kick Darthenshmirtz through several thick walls.[1]

Equipment

Perry wore a green hat and tunic alongside a brown tool belt with a pouch that held a grappling hook rope.[1] In combat, he utilized an electrostaff during his mission to rescue other agents. He also wore a wrist magnet to disarm enemies by pulling their blasters to him and often then used their blasters against them. In addition, he used a suction cup attached to a rod to latch onto and slide down walls.[4] He piloted two different starships, one a shuttle that resembled his physical features as well as a ship he used while fleeing the Death Star.[1]

Perry wore a small holoprojector on his wrist that he used to communicate with Major Hologram. He also had a device that could emit an electric charge capable of deactivating a ray shield and used a gun which shot out a mist that electrocuted droids. On one occasion, Perry used a pot to bake a cake, hand protection to handle it, and a knife to decorate the cake with frosting. He also carried a rag with the Rebel Alliance's insignia on it that he used to wipe his sweat.[1]

Perry the Rebel-pus was created for the television special Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars, a crossover with the Disney Channel animated television series Phineas and Ferb[1] that premiered on July 26, 2014,[6] and first identified the character as Perry and Perry the Platypus.[1] Prior to the special's premiere, he was first mentioned on July 19, 2013 as Agent P in a StarWars.com article revealing the announcement of the special at San Diego Comic-Con.[7] He first appeared and was identified as Perry the Rebel-pus in a promotional web browser game for the special titled Agent P: Rebel Spy, which released on June 20, 2014.[8] He was also depicted in the promotional game Droid Masters on June 30, 2014 before the special released, though only an image of him appeared at the end of each level and he was not actually present in the game's gameplay or events.[9]

The character is based on Perry the Platypus, his counterpart from the main continuity of Phineas and Ferb, and is voiced by the same voice actor, Dee Bradley Baker, who also voiced Chewbacca in the special.[1] The Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars version of Perry, who is depicted stealing the Death Star plans in the special,[1] predated[6] the 2016[10] film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which depicts rebel agents Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor stealing the Death Star plans.[11] Perry was depicted as a Jedi wielding a green lightsaber in multiple promotional images,[12][13] though he was never seen wielding any lightsaber or showed any sign of being Force-sensitive.[1][4]

Phineas and Ferb co-creator Dan Povenmire[1] revealed on Twitter that a cut scene from the special featured a much larger-scale fight between Perry and Darthenshmirtz in a location filled with stormtroopers performing recreational activities. In the scene, Perry stands on a pool float in a pool filled with relaxing stormtroopers while using a blaster to shoot the side of the pool and send water toward Darthenshmirtz, who has a dianoga in a backpack on his back that is throwing a billiard table at Perry.[5] Other scrapped elements of this fight included Perry fighting Darthenshmirtz in a gym with stormtroopers using exercise weights[14] and Perry dodging a red lightsaber and shots from a blaster both being held by Darthenshmirtz's dianoga.[15]
