Peleg Ryn was a Force-sensitive Noghri who served as a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era. In 228 BBY, a plague known as the blight was discovered to be present in the Shrine in the Depths, a Sith temple buried under the Jedi Temple on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant. In response to the discovery, Grand Master Yoda took it upon himself to lead the Jedi's efforts to slow the blight's spread by meditating inside the shrine.
At the time Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh visited the shrine to speak with Yoda, Ryn and Master Jenneh Ley were meditating alongside Yoda in the Sith temple. Ryn and Ley continued to meditate as the Grand Master left the shrine and spoke with Rwoh, though his brief time away resulted in the two taking on enough added burden that Jedi Inith Lowera was forced to enter the shrine and assist the two Jedi. Yoda returned to his meditation after he was finished talking to Rwoh.
Biography
Peleg Ryn was a Noghri who served as a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era.[1] In 228 BBY,[2] Jedi Knights Reath Silas and Vernestra Rwoh visited the Shrine in the Depths, a Sith temple buried under the Jedi Temple on[1] the Core Worlds planet[3] Coruscant, where they discovered the presence of the plague known as the blight.[1] Grand Master[3] Yoda personally led the Order's response to the discovery, taking it upon himself to slow the blight's spread by sitting inside the Sith temple and meditating. To assist Yoda, other Jedi—including Ryn—took shifts in which they sat with the Grand Master inside the shrine, giving themselves over to a meditative trance. The Jedi who returned after spending time combating the blight were weary, drained, and physically spent, with Rwoh commenting it was like the Jedi had given a part of themselves just to slow the blight's spread.[1]
Vernestra Rwoh (pictured) visited the Shrine in the Depths and saw Peleg Ryn meditating alongside Grand Master Yoda.
During their shift, Ryn meditated alongside the human Jedi Master Jenneh Ley and Yoda. The three sat around a circle of blight, with Ley and Ryn on either side of the plague, and they all shared the same posture of sitting cross-legged with their heads tilted to the left. During their shift, Rwoh went to the shrine to speak with the Grand Master, recognizing Ryn and taking notice of their posture as she approached. The Mirialan's arrival was acknowledged by the Grand Master, but both Ryn and Ley continued concentrating deeply and did not look up at her. The Knight then noted that because she distracted Yoda, the two were forced to take on added strain and as a result they deepened their frowns.[1]
While Rwoh stated that she had come to the shrine to see if she could offer assistance to the Grand Master or if he needed anything, Yoda knew it not had been the reason for her visit, and briefly left the shrine to speak with her. Feeling guilty for distracting Yoda from his task, Rwoh swiftly noticed how abundantly clear it was that the strain of his absence had been placed onto Ryn and Ley, requiring the Pantoran Jedi Inith Lowera to enter the shrine to help shoulder the strain. After finishing his conversation with the Mirialan, the Grand Master returned to the shrine to assist the Jedi in their efforts against the blight.[1]
Personality and traits
Peleg Ryn had gray skin. According to Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh, the Noghri was small in size. Ryn remained in deep concentration and therefore did not look up at Rwoh when she approached the Sith shrine.[1]
Skills and abilities
As a member of the Jedi Order, Ryn was Force-sensitive and trained to wield the Force. When Grand Master Yoda left the temple to speak to Rwoh, she quickly noticed how exceedingly clear the extra burden Ryn and Master Jenneh Ley had taken on was, which necessitated Jedi Inith Lowera coming into the shrine to help them.[1]
Behind the scenes
Peleg Ryn appeared in the 2024 young-adult novel The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless, written by George Mann and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[4]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As
Star Wars: The High Republic Chronological Reader's Guide on StarWars.com (article) (backup link) places The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless between the events of "No Big Deal" and The Wedding Spectacular, its events must also be set in 228 BBY.
