For other uses, see Ley.

Jenneh Ley was a Force-sensitive human female who served as a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era. In 228 BBY, the plague known as the blight was discovered in the Shrine in the Depths, a Sith temple buried under the Jedi Temple on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant, and Grand Master Yoda led the Jedi's efforts to slow its spread by meditating inside the shrine.

Ley, along with Master Peleg Ryn, assisted Yoda in his meditation when the Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh visited to speak with Yoda. As the Grand Master briefly left the shrine, Ley and Peleg were left with added strain as they dealt with his absence, with Jedi Inith Lowera quickly arriving to help them. Once Yoda was finished with his conversation with Rwoh, the Grand Master returned to his meditation.

Biography

Jenneh Ley was a human female who served as a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era.[1] In 228 BBY,[2] Jedi Knights Reath Silas and Vernestra Rwoh discovered the plague known as the blight was present in the Shrine in the Depths, a Sith temple buried under the Jedi Temple on[1] the Core Worlds planet[3] Coruscant. In response to the discovery,[1] Grand Master[3] Yoda took it upon himself lead the Jedi's attempts to slow the blight's spread by meditating inside the shrine. To assist Yoda, other Jedi—including Ley—took shifts in which they sat with the Grand Master inside the temple, giving themselves over to a meditative trance. Those Jedi who returned after spending time combating the blight were weary, drained, and physically spent, with Rwoh commenting it was like the Jedi had given a part of themselves just to slow the blight's spread.[1]

At the time Rwoh visited the shrine to speak with Yoda, Ley, along with Noghri Jedi Master Peleg Ryn, was helping the Grand Master in his vigil. As Rwoh approached the temple, the Mirialan recognized Ley and saw the three sitting around a circle of blight, with Ley and Ryn on the left and right of it, and all three sharing the same posture of sitting cross-legged with their heads tilted to the left. While Yoda did acknowledge the Mirialan's presence, Ley and Ryn both did not look up and continued to concentrate deeply, with Rwoh noting that the two's frowns had deepened due to the added strain her distraction of the Grand Master's task had caused them. Rwoh initially stated she had visited to see if Yoda needed anything or if she could offer assistance, which the Grand Master knew was not the true reason for her presence at the shrine, and he briefly left the temple to speak with her.[1]

Rwoh felt guilty for distracting Yoda from his task and quickly noticed that the added strain his absence had caused for both Ley and Ryn had become exceedingly clear. Afterward, the Pantoran Jedi Inith Lowera rushed past the two to enter the temple to help shoulder the added burden that had been placed on the human and Noghri. When the Grand Master had finished speaking with the Jedi Knight, he made his way back to the temple to assist the Jedi in their efforts against the blight.[1]

Personality and traits

Jenneh Ley had tan skin with striped facial tattoos and jet-black hair that she wore scraped back in a tight ponytail. When Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh approached the shrine, she noticed that Ley did not look up as she was in deep concentration.[1]

Skills and abilities

As a member of the Jedi Order, Ley was Force-sensitive and trained to wield the Force. As Grand Master Yoda left the temple to speak to Rwoh, the Knight swiftly noticed how abundantly clear the extra burden Ley and Master Peleg Ryn were taking on was, requiring Jedi Inith Lowera to enter the shrine to help them.[1]

Behind the scenes

Jenneh Ley appeared in the 2024 young-adult novel The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless, written by George Mann and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[4]

  2. Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As StarWars.com Star Wars: The High Republic Chronological Reader's Guide on StarWars.com (article) (backup link) places The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless between the events of "No Big Deal" and The Wedding Spectacular, its events must also be set in 228 BBY.
