The Osara Mundicide was a devastation of a world that occurred during the Tenth Alsakan Conflict[1] and shared its name with the Inner Rim's Osara system.[2] It was the culmination of a period of the millennia-long struggles between the planet Alsakan, the Galactic Republic's capital world Coruscant, and their respective allies over the political control over the Republic. That period began after the Republic's victory over the Kumauri Empire in a war around 10,000 BBY that saw the latter faction use mass-driver cannons for the orbital bombardment of planetary surfaces with accelerated asteroids. After the war, the Republic adopted the technology in its own military, and it became a grim new tactic employed during the Coruscant-Alsakan conflicts. Simultaneously, the fear of bombardment led to rapid development of the technologies of planetary shields and planet-based weapons such as turbolasers.[1]
