Orin was a desolate terrestrial planet in the second orbital position of the Bespin system[1] in the Anoat sector,[3] which was part of the Outer Rim Territories[1] and Western Reaches.[2] The system was located along the Ison Trade Corridor,[1] 49,100 light-years from the Galactic Core[5] at square K-18 on the Standard Galactic Grid.[4] The world's very erratic orbit of the system's star took nine months and brought Orin very close to the star. Twice per orbit, it also caused the planet to pass through Velser's Ring, a wide asteroid belt that was all that remained of a gas giant that had once occupied the Bespin system's third orbital ring.[1]
Orin was discovered along with the other two remaining planets in the system by the first prospecting teams to arrive, but as its unstable surface claimed the lives of many prospecting teams, the world remained relatively unexplored long after the rest of the system had been mapped and exploited.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Orin was mentioned in "Bespin and Other Planets in the Outer Rim," an entry in De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia series[1] that was originally released on September 21, 2021.[6] The world originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in a portion of the 1989 roleplaying supplement Galaxy Guide 2: Yavin and Bespin written by Christopher Kubasik. The book was published by West End Games as part of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[7]
