"Only Saw could live on that crap."
―Xosad Hozem expresses disgust for nutritive milk to Jyn Erso[2]

Nutritive milk was a type of milk. During the Imperial Era, members of the Galactic Empire as well as members of several partisan rebel groups drank the milk. Although the human Jyn Erso thought the milk was bland and not as filling as real food, nutritive milk was cheap and satiating enough for survival purposes.

Description

Nutritive milk was a type of nutritional milk that was potable by humans. It could be served in a can[2] or canteen.[3] The human Jyn Erso felt that the milk tasted bland and did not fill her up the way real food did.[2]

History

Jyn Erso drank nutritive milk during her time with the Partisans.

Jyn Erso drank nutritive milk during her time with the Partisans.

The human Saw Gerrera and his rebel group known as the Partisans[2] kept containers of nutritive milk in the bulkhead of some of their ships[1] as well as in their outpost on the planet Wrea during the Imperial Era.[2] In 13 BBY,[4] after Gerrera became responsible for raising Erso as a young girl at the base, Gerrera provided her with cans of nutritive milk, which he also preferred to serve the others that stayed at the base, stating that he preferred to avoid the hassle of solid food items. Some of the Partisans, such as the Twi'lek Xosad Hozem, refused to drink the milk and purchased other food to eat instead. When Erso lived on the Five Points space station[2] around 4 BBY,[5] she saved her credits by living off of nutritive milk and vegetable protein straws, both being cheap food options.[2]

In 0 ABY,[4] when Seyn Marana, an Imperial agent of Inferno Squad, infiltrated the partisan rebel group known as the Dreamers by going undercover, the Twi'lek Dreamer Dahna offered her nutritive milk and a meiloorun fruit aboard their ship. The Dreamers also kept nutritive milk at their encampment on the planet Jeosyn, with the human rebel Lux Bonteri having some near his sleeping area.[1] The same year,[6] Imperial lieutenant Thane Kyrell drank a canteen of nutritive milk that had been taken from a village during the Imperial search for a rebel base on the planet Dantooine.[3] In 3 ABY,[7] the Imperial officer Berisse Sai drank nutritive milk in the cafeteria aboard the Super Star Destroyer Executor.[3]

Behind the scenes

Nutritive milk first appeared in the 2015 novel Lost Stars, written by Claudia Gray.[3]
