Nira was a part of the Umbaran commando's crystal guard[1] from 3634 BBY to 3629 BBY[2] and beyond. When she first became a guard in 3634 BBY, she transported crystals through the void forest with two squads and a superior. In the middle of the forest, the train transporting the crystals suddenly stopped, forcing Nira and the other guards to investigate the area. The forest was pitch black, not even allowing Nira to see her own hands in front of her face. She felt that something was off, and soon after a tech officer in her squad got picked up by an alpha slybex, went flying through the air, and died when he hit the base of a tree. Chaos irrupted, and after the entire squad was dead, Nira decided to run away from the creature. She hid for three days before she was rescued. After that incident in the void forest, no crystals were allowed to be transported through that area again.[1]
Five years later, Nira was transporting crystals with Squad One, including Veesh and a rookie. She recounted her story through the void forest to them before being attacked by the Eternal Alliance.[1]
