Nevakka was a Wookiee male[1] infant lived during the High Republic Era. When hyperspace travel was being permitted again in the aftermath of the Great Hyperspace Disaster, the child and[2] his[1] parents traveled aboard the passenger starship Journeyman when it departed Cerea. However, the Journeyman was crippled by a piece of hyperspace debris, as the hyperlane it was traveling on had been reopened prematurely. In the ensuing chaos, the infant was separated from his parents. When several Jedi boarded the Journeyman after encountering the scene in the transport Vessel, Padawan Reath Silas rescued the child from the burning ship, during which she ripped out his Padawan braid. The child was later successfully returned to his grateful parents.[2]

In 228 BBY,[3] Nevakka was on Kashyyyk where he greeted the Kashyyyk team when they arrived to investigate the blight.[1]

Behind the scenes

Nevakka first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the 2021 young-adult novel The High Republic: Into the Dark, written by Claudia Gray as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[2] Phase I.[4] In the novel, the character was established as a female and with she/her pronouns.[2] Nevakka was later identified in the 2025 young-adult novel The High Republic: Into the Light, also written by Gray and released as part of the multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[5] Into the Light states that Nevakka was male and uses him/his pronouns. It also states that Nevakka bit off Reath Silas' padawan braid,[1] even though Into the Dark had Nevakka rip it off.[2]

  3. Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 16, which features the Stormwall going down, takes place one year and a few months after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. The events of The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless also take place in 228 BBY per the reasoning here. As The High Republic: Into the Light states its events occur after the events of Tears of the Nameless and before the Stormwall goes down, they must also take place in that year.
