Narkina 2[4] was a location in[1] the Narkina system of the Abrion sector in the Outer Rim Territories.[2] It was the site of an Imperial factory facility where former supervisor of the Imperial Security Bureau Dedra Meero was incarcerated by the Galactic Empire[4] after she was found to have acquired confidential files relating to Project Stardust that she did not have clearance for[5] in 1 BBY.[6] Following a shift during her incarceration in that prison, Meero sat in her cellblock while remaining composed until the lights in her cellblock turned off. Following the lights' deactivation, Meero broke down and cried.[3]

Behind the scenes

"It's probably Narkina 7 or Narkina 2. It's the women's version."
―Tony Gilroy, on Dedra Meero's prison[7]
Star Wars Insider 233 marked the first identification of Narkina 2.

Star Wars Insider 233 marked the first identification of Narkina 2.

Narkina 2 first appeared, albeit unidentified, in "Jedha, Kyber, Erso,"[3] the series finale of the Disney+ live-action television series Star Wars: Andor, which was released on May 13, 2025. It was later identified in the Star Wars Insider magazine article Andor Season 2 Companion by Lucas O. Seastrom and Jay Stobie. The article was published in Star Wars Insider 233[4] on August 19 of the same year.[8]

Previously, the name "Narkina 2" had appeared as a typo in a StarWars.com article published on May 14, 2025. Intended to be a mention of Narkina 5, the article mentioned it to relate Narkina 5 to the prison where Dedra Meero is shown incarcerated.[9] When discussing the prison, in an Entertainment Weekly interview published the same day as the StarWars.com article, the series' creator and executive producer, Tony Gilroy, described Meero's all-female prison as hypothetically being Narkina 2 or Narkina 7 as opposed to Narkina 5.[7] Gilroy had also previously mentioned Narkina 2 as a hypothetical location for the Empire's alien prisoners when discussing Narkina 5 in an interview with Collider on November 22, 2022.[10]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Narkina 2 in relation to the Narkina system.
