"Natural hot springs feed our famous rejuvenating mud baths."

A mud bath was a rejuvenating spa treatment in which a person immersed themselves in highly fluid mud.[1] Mud-bathers took their baths in communal Mud Pits and came from various species, including Hutts, Ithorians, and Muuns. In addition to enjoying the relaxing qualities of the treatment,[2] participants could be provided with refreshments, although some bathers preferred to consume spa attendants instead.[1]

During the New Republic Era, mud baths were offered by[1] Skull Ridge Mountain Hotel & Spa[3] on the planet of Lanupa. The facility's mud-supplying system relied on pipes which delivered mud to dedicated pits, fed by natural hot springs. The mud came in various colors and shades, ranging from light blue to light brown. According to droid SM-33, who remembered the place as it had looked in pirate Captain Tak Rennod's day, the pits should instead be filled with a corpse-dissolving acid.[1]

Among the Skull Ridge Mountain Hotel & Spa guests who decided for a mud bath were Banking Clan officials[1]—such as a male Muun and a female[2] Muun with a white towel—who had arrived on the planet for a local economic summit. As they relaxed in a pit, the two Muuns were approached by[1] security officers[2] and asked whether they had seen Jod Na Nawood. In addition, mud baths were offered to a few Ithorians and to a male Hutt. When treated with a tray of food, however, the latter instead consumed the attendant, shrugging off[1] his[2] poignant appeals not to do so again. Some time later, three human[1] security guards[2] took an unexpected mud bath, falling straight into a pool after the youngling KB had tinkered with one of the pipes to create a mud stream.[1]

Behind the scenes

"I cut little 'splurty', disgusting bubbles. Every single one that pops in that Hutt pit was cut by hand."
―Sound designer David W. Collins[4]

Several mad baths were illustrated in "You Have a Lot to Learn About Pirates," the fifth episode of the Disney+-original live-action television series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.[1] The episode premiered on December 24, 2024.[5] The popping sounds for the bubbles in a Hutt's pit were cut manually by sound designer David W. Collins. According to Collins, the mut pit scenes were "gross", highly contrasting with the sparkling fountain and chattering vacationers seen earlier on.[4]
