Mucous salamanders were salamanders native to the rivers of the jungle moon Yavin 4. The moon's spider angler organisms weaved their webs above murky river water in order to search for and catch mucous salamanders.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, mucous salamanders were mentioned in the reference booklet "Scarif and Other Planets in the Outer Rim," published by De Agostini as part of their Star Wars Encyclopedia[1] on July 20, 2021.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, mucous salamanders first appeared in the 1995 novel Young Jedi Knights: Heirs of the Force, the first installment of the Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights series, written by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta.[3] They were first pictured in the 2001 reference book The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide, written by Terryl Whitlatch and Bob Carrau.[4]
