The mother of the human hunter Mosey Cimmaron at one point lived on a ranch on the planet Koboh with Cimmarron, who also had a sister. A feral caniphant terrorized the ranch and twice destroyed its barn, covering its tracks and so it was difficult to find. As Cimmaron's mother always told her to range with her nose, they reversed the moisture vaporators on the ranch and filled the air with moisture. This made the caniphant's scent more pungent and allowed them to track it.[1]

After the Jedi Knight Cal Kestis slew the unpleasant smelling mogu known as the Mire Terror[1] in 9 BBY,[2] Cimmaron told him about her mother's advice on ranging, sharing the story about the caniphant as an example of how important smell could be when hunting .[1]
