The monzu was a predatory species found on the planet Zolan. As a result of a spike of solar radiation from Zolan's sun, the monzu and various other species on the world developed the ability to alter their skin color and change their body shape as an adaptation. Many of Zolan's native creatures died out during the spike, but those that survived until the radiation levels dropped again, like the monzu, were dramatically shaped by the event.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the monzu were mentioned in No Disintegrations, a 2018 supplement for Fantasy Flight Games's Star Wars: Edge of the Empire roleplaying system.[1] The monzu originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were mentioned in "The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life: The Clawdites," an article published in the tenth issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine[2] on May 7, 2002.[3]
