In 4 ABY,[2] members of the New Republic undertook a mission to the Outer Rim's Anoat sector to assess the situation of[1] Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard's[5] Iron Blockade of the sector.[1]
The mission
Posing undercover as smugglers, Rebel operatives traveled to the fringe of Anoat Sector in the Oggrud an explosive laden Barloz-class freighter. The Oggrud was intercepted by a fleet of Spice Runner ships commanded by Zeva Bliss.[1] The Spice Runners were seeking to ally themselves with Ubrik Adelhard's coalition, believing it serves the Spice Runners to foment chaos.[3]
Spice Runner lieutenant Vigilch demanded the Rebel operatives allow the Spice Runners to board their ship or be destroyed. Rather than surrender, New Republic pilot Rynn Zenat rammed the Oggrud into the Spice Runner ships, triggering massive explosions.[3]
Ubrik Adelhard's Star Destroyer Specter later arrived at the battlefield. There, they discovered the Spice Runners had sustained significant in the Oggrud's attack. Bliss's flagship, the Ragged Claw remained functional, but all other Spice Runner ships were gone or beyond repair.[3]
Miraculously, all four members of the undercover New Republic investigation team survived the encounter. Adelhard's forces were able to recover the crew from the freighter's escape pod and take them prisoner onboard the Specter.[3]
The crew was later freed from their cell by undercover New Republic spy Kith Alaytia. However, before they could make their full escape, they were confronted by Adelhard's enforcers Bragh and Reyna Oskure and incapacitated. Luke Skywalker would eventually stage his own rescue operation, fully drawing the New Republic into conflict with Adelhard's Iron Blockade.[4]
