Malma tree was a type of tree that grew on Simoth, a forest world[1] located in the Mortex sector of the Outer Rim Territories.[2] At some point between approximately 5000 BBY and many years prior to 1032 BBY,[3] the Sith Lord Darth Caldoth returned to Simoth to collect his prospective apprentice Ry Nymbis, whom he had left at an enslaver camp there seven years prior. At the time of Caldoth's return, a group of towering malma trees grew on the outskirts of the camp, and the Sith's shuttle passed through their tall canopy on its spiraling descent.[1]
Behind the scenes
The malma tree appeared in "Gaze of Stone," a short story written by George Mann and included in the 2019 collection Myths & Fables.[1]

- ↑ During the flashback events of "Gaze of Stone," Darth Caldoth is a Sith Lord who, during the events of the follow-up story "The Gilded Cage," is known to the Jedi Order. Therefore, the events of the story must take place after the formation of the Sith and before their supposed extinction. As Star Wars: Timelines dates those events to around 5000 BBY and 1032 BBY, respectively, "Gaze of Stone" must take place between those two dates, with the portion of the story featuring malma trees furthermore being set many years prior to the conclusion of the story's flashbacks.
