The Lina Soh Hospital,[2] also known as the Lina Soh Medical Center,[3] was a hospital on the planet Coruscant[1] named after former Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic Lina Soh. One of the premiere medical facilities in the galaxy, it was staffed by the best doctors in the sector and was able to serve the needs of nearly every species.[2] By 1 BBY, years after the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire, the hospital was still in operation,[1] and was directed by Doctor Recklaw.[4] A gold-colored sign in Aurebesh displayed the name of the hospital.[1]
That year, after being apprehended in his shop Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest by Imperial Security Bureau supervisor Dedra Meero, Rebel spymaster Luthen Rael stabbed himself with the intention of allowing his secrets to die with him. Meero ordered for him to be kept alive, and Rael was brought to Lina Soh Hospital in an Imperial ambunaut. Rael was placed in an apparatus that kept him alive despite his mortal injuries, and Meero seized the floor from the hospital's control for the ISB. Despite this, Rael's rebel associate and adopted daughter Kleya Marki was able to infiltrate the hospital, disguising herself as a patient and then stealing hospital scrubs to disguise herself as a nurse. Distracting the ISB agents and stormtroopers by rigging an explosion in the landing pads, Marki reached Rael's room and took him off life support, ending his life and preventing the ISB from interrogating or torturing him.[1]
Behind the scenes
- "Two Easter eggs that I suggested on the page got in. One was the name of the hospital that Kleya goes to, which is called Lina Soh. She was the Chancellor from the High Republic days. And I had no idea if it was gonna get in. I just stuck it into the script, and then someone went and named it that."
- ―Tom Bissell
Lina Soh Hospital's interior
The Lina Soh Hospital first appeared in "Make It Stop," the tenth episode of the second season of the live-action television series Andor,[1] which released on May 13, 2025.[6] Series writer Tom Bissell named the hospital after the High Republic chancellor as an easter egg, though initially unsure if the name was going to stick outside of the script.[5] The hospital set was a favorite of showrunner Tony Gilroy.[3] The sign displaying Lina Soh's name uses the Aurebesh character for "1" instead of the "I" character.[1] Andor production designer Luke Hull considered creating the Coruscant hospital a challenge, and revealed that it was initially designed after the Lloyd's building in London, with consideration even going into filming the scenes in empty floors of the Lloyd's building. However, Hull and set decorator Rebecca Alleway eventually settled on building a bright single u-shaped set that could be modified to depict different floors, taking inspiration from Japanese hospitals.[7]
