- "The shipyards of Kuat are famous throughout the galaxy. Here, the Republic's Acclamator assault ships and the Empire's Star Destroyers were built. A vast man-made ring of factories and spacedocks encircles the planet, allowing huge vessels to be built in orbit."
- ―The Galactic Atlas
The Kuat shipyards,[3] also dubbed Kuat Drive Yards after their custodian company,[10] consisted of a massive space station which encircled[11] the Core[1] planet Kuat, utilized by Kuat Drive Yards. After the founding of the Galactic Empire,[12] in 19 BBY[13] the shipyards were converted from civilian shipyards to the manufacture of Imperial-class Star Destroyers[12] and all manner of vehicles for the Galactic Empire.[3] Around 17 BBY,[14] the shipyards were the site of a bombing organized by a rebel infiltrator, who planted and detonated an explosive, creating a blast that killed the ten year old Gideon Hask's parents. Afterward, Hask was left an orphan.[7]
Rebel agents were located near the Kuat Shipyards and gave reports to General Airen Cracken about their findings.[2] The Alliance carried out a bombing run against the Kuat shipywards in the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin.[5] In 5 ABY,[15] the New Republic, the successor state of the Rebel Alliance, attacked the shipyards once again. The battle ended with a surrender from the Empire, and the shipyards were taken.[6]
