"Silooth…tuk'ata…veergundark…krastenane…"
―Dooku, reading from The Bestiary of Darth Caldoth — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[1]

Krastenanes were a type of Sith warbeast that the Sith apprentice Ry Nymbis defeated during pit fights on the forest world Simoth. Nymbis's Sith Master, Darth Caldoth, included them in the book The Bestiary of Darth Caldoth and, in 88 BBY, the Jedi Initiate Dooku read the name aloud from the bestiary while in the Archive of Forbidden Artifacts in the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant.

Description

Krastenanes[2] were a type of Sith warbeast, creatures used by the Sith.[1]

History

The green-skinned Duros Darth Caldoth stands on a cliff top in black robes with a gray sky behind him.

Krastenanes were mentioned in Darth Caldoth's Bestiary.

After the Sith Lord Darth Caldoth abandoned his Sith apprentice Ry Nymbis in an enslaver camp on[2] the Outer Rim[3] forest world Simoth, Nymbis was forced into pit fights against krastenanes, slothkins, dianogas, and other enslaved individuals, but defeated them all.[2] Caldoth included krastenanes in a list of Sith warbeasts in The Bestiary of Darth Caldoth, a tome that he compiled[1] by 1032 BBY.[4]

In 88 BBY,[5] the Jedi Initiates Dooku and Sifo-Dyas found the book within the Jedi Order's Archive of Forbidden Artifacts in the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant. Dooku read several names—including krastenane—from the bestiary and assumed they were hideous based on what he saw, but Sifo-Dyas recognized the names as belonging to Sith warbeasts and informed his companion. Dooku was shocked to learn that the Jedi held a text on the subject.[1]

Dooku later recounted the incident to his sister Jenza via holo-letter.[1] Around 23 BBY,[6] Dooku gave data disks of his conversations with Jenza to his recently recruited Sith assassinAsajj Ventress—for her investigation into Jenza's location, and she listened to the message mentioning krastenanes.[1]

Behind the scenes

Krastenanes were first mentioned in Dooku: Jedi Lost, an audiobook written by Cavan Scott[1] and published on April 30, 2019.[7] As Dooku: Jedi Lost was released solely in audio format, the name's spelling was unconfirmed,[1] until krastenanes were later mentioned in the short story "Gaze of Stone," written by George Mann and published in the book Myths & Fables[2] on August 6, 2019.[8] The script for Dooku: Jedi Lost,[9] released on October 1, 2019,[10] confirmed that the creature mentioned in the audiobook and the creatures mentioned in "Gaze of Stone" were the same.[9]
